It never bothered me but I always saw the girls making the honor rolls and top grades while I just managed to muddle through. Now I know why!

Now, it they'd only be smart enough to figure out how to get rid of all those egotistical males trying to rule the world and messing things up. :salute:

I've always heard that the reason behind this is that the education system is more geared towards girls than boys. Not sure how much of that is true, but it's a common reason I see for why girls get better grades.

It appears we have a social myth that boys were smarter than girls despite all the evidence to the contrary...in the past womens careers were put on hold by child rearing and male dominace in the work place so they never reached their potenial...but the situation is quickly changing universties are now being dominated by female enrollment...

So you're saying that women are genetically smarter than men?

nope as the link demonstrated its more complex than that...it could the learning process is different in men in women, just as rote learning is different than critical thinking....

People who will be upset by this are those who try link brain size with intelligence....

That is a theory I've considered. I was pretty restless in school, but I still payed attention and got good grades. I realize that's anecdotal evidence, but something must be going on that's causing the decline in male college students.

Imo it's not a decline in men but a social change in the status of women...the younger segment of western society no longer see women as stay at home moms...my sisters were never encouraged to seek higher education, it was expected they would complete a minimum of education marry in their 20s and raise children....I raised my daughters with the expectation they would complete tertiary education and begin a career first before even considering marriage and children...now if you stir in any biological factors that may give women an edge in the learning process and its not a matter of male decline but women reaching their full potential...

from my personal recollection of school the girls always seemed more focused than boys...

It probably is that girls are more disciplined toward classrooms than boys as classrooms are more oriented toward learning abstractly. It always seemed to be that boys were better the more tactile the lessons were (labs v. books) and girls as a whole struggled a lot more with things like word problems (not that a fair share of boys don't as well) that were more distanced from the abstract and rooted in reality.

I thought the standing theory wasn't about who was smarter but rather females tend to be better students. Less delinquency etc.

That's what the snippet is suggesting also.

Smart people getting bad grades or failing courses or out of college is all too common. You gotta do the work, consistently.

We have more female teachers than male teachers. Female teachers (more often than not) teach in ways that females relate to. There are some female teachers that can reach male students, but in general school reflects female styled learning.

Something my research has got me to thinking about.

In primitive cultures, men were always the "shamans" or healers, using all sorts of tricks designed to get people to think they were getting better via mystical rituals.

At the same time, women were always the herbalists, the ones to find and use various plants to deal with the physical side of illness. They used cauterization long before it became common among surgeons.

What, if anything, does that say?

It is not about smarts but about trying harder, we are experiencing the same phenomenon for 40 years now and this is because young women from rural areas do not want to live in small communities .

Scoring high grades does not necessarily mean you are smart. It just means you have a good memory and give the teachers the answers they want to have (or that you are great at cheating which is actually far too common).

Also girls mature sooner than boys so at a young age they are a bit more advanced intelligently, and boys are wild rambunctious things with shorter attention spans..

Their are a lot less very low IQ girls than their are very low IQ boys, but their are also many more high IQ boys than their are high IQ girls..
Females IQ tend to be more centered around the mean and males tend to have more outliars away from the mean on both ends of the spectrum..

I suspect that a quite high IQ may lead to worse performance in school at times because of boredom and realizing just what you have to do to get by rather than put forth 100% effort all the time.. High IQ often correlates with eccentricity which is bad in a school environment..

Edison was extremely intelligent but was a bad student..
I myself score quite a good IQ but my grades in school were poor because I wouldn't do hours of homework every night and just used important tests to pass my classes.. You only need like 10%-25% on your regular work/homework when you can blow away your tests with 90%+ consistently and walk away with comfortably passing C's with much less effort.. You can skip a whole lot of days too and survive many suspensions for being "impulsive" as they called me.. Also if you think outside of the box you can learn to be good at "tests" in general, understand how to give yourself the best odds on them without even knowing a damn thing about the subject matter..

School is largely authority indoctrination which failed miserably on me and I scammed them out of their little useless piece of paper..
