This is a thread dedicated to one thing and ONE thing only, to give a sermon. On a previous thread, we decided on a judge for the sermons contest who is DBM aka FDS. The rules are the following, the character limit is 250 words, the sermons begin today and end midnight on 9/16, and the topic for the sermons is "Love". Any one else is discouraged from posting here. We are not to judge the sermons in any way until it is time for the judge to impose a verdict. After he does we will be free to discuss the sermons as well as the individual judgements. Just a few quick hints as to what makes a good sermon. 1. Communicational excellence 2. Faithfulness to a spiritual stadard or basis. 3. Transformational power. Now its your turn to give us a sermon!!!
Love, what is it? That is the driving question we see from religion. In fact, the Bible says something very interesting to drive home the point, it says, "GOD IS LOVE", powerful words with far reaching implications. Jesus drives home the point when he said that love is the beginning and the end of the law and if you walk in it with God and your fellow man, you keep the law by default. In fact, those who are not religious have an equal appreciation for this phenomenon we call love. After all, love dominates our lives, it is what gives our lives meaning and value. Those who forsake her are often seen in our prisons, our mental institutions, or perhaps reflected in a suicide attempt. So what is love? Is there a definition adequate to define it? If so, then I suppose you could define God, a daunting task for an eternal all knowing being. The Greeks assigned 4 different words to describe love which are agapa (the Biblical love), eros (a passionate love with sensual desire), philia (a brotherly love or friendship type of love), storge (a natural effection such as a parenrts love for their child). Saint Paul took a stab at defining agapa love in 1 Corinthians 13. He says, "Love is patient, love is kind. It is never jealous or envious, never boastful or proud, never haughty or selfish or rude. Love does not demand its own way and is not irritable or touchy. Love does not hold grudges and is never glad about injustice." In fact, Saint Paul goes on to say that without love you are nothing at all. In fact, Paul says that everything will pass away, such as knowledge and spiritual gifts and faith etc, but love is what is only what is eternal. In short, we see God through a dark window. Paul conceeds that his own knowledge, as well as our own, is poor in this regard. However, one day we will behold his glorious reality as we behold God face to face!! As for myself, I see love as the spiritual meeting the material world. By itself, love does not exist in the material world. It is merely a complex set of reactions caused in the brain. In fact, if it were not for these reactions, science and the material world would say love does not exist at all, yet it is the most real and important phenomenon to our lives. I think deep down we know it exists of and by itself, at least, we HOPE it does. It is really our only hope in the end. Now that we all have warm fuzzies, is there a dark side to love? Does love demand its own way? Saint Paul indicates love does not demand its own way. In fact, love gives you the option to reject it. Then once you reject love, what of the consequences such as injustice? Can love turn a blind eye to injustice? According to Saint Paul, no. So if love cannot ignore injustice, then what does love do about such injustice? These are all troubling conundrums that perplex us today and perhaps for all eternity. So in conclusion, love is a pandoras box. Once inside, you are in way over your head, but without it, you are nothing at all. I suppose the question we must all ask ourselves is, is love worth it? Is it worth the pain we feel when seperated from our loved ones for whatever reason or opening ourselves up to rejection? I say it is!!! What say you?
so bible says 'god is love' and jesus says, love is the beginning and ending (time) like in a science......... and that to walk in it, with god...?!?!? Is god "love" or is god something else and love comes in time? (the beginning and ending)? hey preachers........... you're mixing up the dialogue, can you clarify that? OK............... i get that. No one needs 'a god' to know LOVE. great point preacher! if love dominates.... who is the she? does that mean that homosexual men who dont do a 'she' dont know love? What? no one can know love unless in the material world. hey preacher.............. i think you need to stop doing that stuff ted haggart was doing in the hotel room. because yep with your facts,.... it must be the crack but you said up there, all know love...... may i quote? In fact, those who are not religious have an equal appreciation for this phenomenon we call love. did you sleep well last night, because you seems confused. kind of like misleading................ if you know you are lying, then you are nothing if you keep doing it sorry, but i tink i need to leave the pew can i have my money back out of the tray?
In the interest of showing courtesy to others, please refrain from responding to the sermons as the thread respectfully requested you do. This thread is dedicated for those who wish to give sermons. Debate will occur after our judge has judged the sermons given here. In other words, give a sermon or please do not respond as of yet. Feel free to give a sermon of your own. Thanks.
i am equally a judge and dont care who you voted for................ I did............... twice now. I love the evolution of life. and all are equal no matter what. the old method of ranting with BS is what people need to realize, should be OVER! If you want to sermon and maintain your own closed doors, then open your own website this is an open forum and with an open format.................. liars have no method of closing the doors this is TODAY and soon all doors will come down. ie.... you have no right to mislead and you are being judged, directly!
was it really that easy? i wonder if i could go to the local church and clean it out just as easily. Perhaps i could turn the place into a homeless shelter and put the cadillac up for sale to feed them
So is anyone else interested in giving a sermon on love or do we let the troll win? I thought we had some interest.
never been there. Who was trying to win? i asked simple questions and the idiots cant sustain enough integrity to answer them. Me in a debate with people who pick you as the judge is like debating with the simple minded. I dont think they realize, your posts share that perhaps the originator should be wearing a helmit when walking. boo
I prefer using the word of god to do my talking; enjoy life. Draw outside the lines. Embrace all of the beautiful and wonder things that make life life. - Lateralus
I posted at the beginning of the thread what the rules were. Everyone was to give a sermon and then have them judged and discussed later on. You then apparently read the rules and said to hell with the rules and being respectful to the posters on this forum. Of course, you are free to do so, but don't expect to be viewed as anything but a simple troll on the site if that is the way you wish to act.
thank you...... i offer respect to them who deserve it, not liars who mistreat others with false witness. ie.... if you harm others with deception, you are an enemy of all and any 'god'. SO be judged by what you do and likewise , let the sermon be to any; that each can judge the liars personally.
Is the reason for the name ..... 'e lie jah'.............? and should be Ye lie jah lot ...........................?
Give it anyway. What is the worst that could possibly happen other than the peanut gallery screaming that every word that comes out of your mouth is a lie?
