GM Sidesteps Economic Headwinds; Q3 Profit Jumps Nearly 37%

    https://www.usnews.com/news/business/articles/2022-10-25/gm-3q-profit-up-on-us-sales-says-its-handling-headwinds#:~:text=Oct. 25, 2022, at 9:07 a.m.&text=DETROIT (AP) — General Motors,$2.42 billion a year earlier.

"DETROIT (AP) — General Motors' third-quarter net profit rose 36.7% as vehicle sales began to rebound from persistent parts supply chain troubles.

The Detroit automaker on Tuesday reported earnings of $3.3 billion from July through September, compared with $2.42 billion a year earlier.

The increase was fueled largely by a 24% sales increase in the U.S., by far GM’s most profitable market. The company said it is seeing improved supplies of computer chips, allowing it to build more vehicles and increase inventory on dealer lots
    ."

So, let me get this right, here people whine and whine that the "Biden" economy is terrible, yet, they have no problem plonking down +$50,000 on GM's overpriced SUVs and trucks?

In 2022, almost 80% of new vehicle sales were SUVs and trucks. How is this possible? Do people not look at the price at the pump? Or do they erroneously think that voting for a GOP Congress in Nov. 22 will magically bring gas prices back down below the $3 mark?

Of course, it also appears that consumers have no problem going into debt to cough up these overinflated prices. A GM base model truck was $40,000 in 2020 (already overpriced), now it is $50,000. Top trims can go for >$80,000. it seems, though the consumer doesn't mind the price gouging and the killing GM is making by doing this, but they shake their fist at the pump and scream "Biden bad"?

There is a REAL disconnect with the way many people see the economy. They think that the fossil fuel gravy train can go on forever, and that Biden is just a minor bump in the road, and when he is voted out everything will go back to the familiar gas-guzzling ways. Well, newsflash: FOSSIL FUELS ARE NON-RENEWABLE. Things will only get worse from here, as the low hanging fruit of oil fields have been picked, and worldwide demand keeps increasing.

Now, the rational response would be to start to look for ways to get off the fossil fuels band wagon. Of course, that would be too much to ask from the average media-spoon-fed consumer who thinks they are OWED cheap gas prices. Shaking my head.....

This is the heartless Dem message of "Shut Serfs! Quit complaining about $500/mo for inflation, you have too much anyway!"
'Look the stupid Serfs are buying the 'wrong' vehicles! They shouldn't be buying the vehicles they think they need, they should be buying the vehicles we the privileged Gentry think they need.' (even though the privileged Gentry buy as many SUV's and trucks as they want)
Do you have any sense of just how fed up the Free People of America are with the dripping disdain and judgmentalism of way too many on the Left?
"Let me Gentry-splain the 'facts' to the lowly Serfs'
These are not YOUR resources they are OUR resources and if we want to utilize them we damn sure will, and if that means voting out the Gentry-saviors that think they should do the thinking for everyone else and tell them how to live their lives, well, we damn sure will.
Actually the rational response is to vote these disdain filled bossy bastards out of office.

The chip shortage is contrived. Vehicles don't need those. I've helped a friend of mine fix his 1970s pickup truck. It runs fine has plenty of power very similar gas mileage to my own without the BS.

Do they want these things in these vehicles so that the dealership can make money on repairs that you can't get done at other places or in your driveway.

This is all 100% a scam by auto makers. As far as the electric cars go I think automakers are getting into that because it's that same scam with 100% return rate.

I have never given that an auto manufacturer money for a car I buy used cars because I don't want to buy their brand new problems. I've seen too many cars and even cars you wouldn't expect have blown head gaskets after 60,000 miles. When in particular the Ford bronco they just made disrupting valves down in the engine causing interference basically what you have this car for 3 months and it needs a new engine. Cord is doing everything that can to weasel out of doing any recalls regarding that.

They've always needed protection from the government for this scam. And that's the only way they get away with it.

I've been looking for a 1970s 1 ton pickup truck because I cannot place good money on this garbage they are making now.

Even if you do a total frame off restoration of it and retrofit some of the components you want it's cheaper than buying one.

It's people like me this is all about. They want to make money off of me. And that's why they pull this garbage regarding Simi conductors

Someone who plonks down >$60,000 for a new truck is not a serf, or maybe they are -- to the car industry, mindless consumerism, and their boss.

But, keep on shouting "Let's go Brandon" in anger. That will solve your problem of paying too much for gas -- not. Newsflash: A smaller, more gas efficient vehicle could do.

What a bunch of bologna. Did it ever occur to you that car and truck sales are down overall because of the idiotic policies of the basement dummy and far left Administration?

"According to sales figures from Car Sales Base, though, truck sales are down. Last year, the truck market was down to a seven-year low, and it's falling even further this year. Overall, manufacturers have sold 981,000 trucks in the first half of this year compared to 1.166 million in the first half of 2021."

The mental gymnastics it takes to try and sell people on your logic is astounding. Even with a tiny amount of research, it just proves how totally wrtong your statement is. Who are you trying to convince anyways?

    https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2022/07...met-with-few-surprises-2022-q2-sales-results/

The Dearborn automaker sold 142,644 vehicles in the U.S. last month, down 8.9% from September 2021.

That's right. A Free Person is free to make that choice and to hold politicians accountable for their foolish acts that have the average family paying $500/mo for inflation.
Not your call. We want more supply and our mineral resources are not owned by the Gentry Left, they are all of ours and we are going to vote in some folks who understand that we have every right to develop our national resources if that is our choice.

Do you have any sense of just how fed Up Free Americas are of the bossy Left? The lockdowns, the forced masking, the forced vaccinations, now the inflation, the silencing on social media of contrary views, we're just sick of it, and it's our intention to make it YOUR problem in about 13 days.

    Senate control, GOP favored 71-33
    House - GOP favored 81-13

Maybe another rant about how 'stupid' everyone is who holds a view that differs from yours will help? Americans love to vote for folks who call them stupid? This apparently a closely held secret known only to some on the Left?
