Some incite as to why some scientists are opposed to the idea of "god did it".

Science is used as tool to understand the universe and everything in it. Science is used to explain, and is the only method of explaining, natural phenomenon. These answers only come from exploration of the natural world, the only way to answer questions is to pursue answers in what will essentially be more questions. This requires physical exploration, the construction and testing of a hypothesis. If observations support it, great, if they contradict the hypothesis, the hypothesis is thrown out.

"God did it" does not answer any questions in a meaningful way, now does it explain how things work. "God did it" in the formation of life does not explain how such life arrived on the scene. "God did it" does not answer the question of what caused the big bang. "God did it" does not give us the mass of a Top Quark.

Why things are and how things work is the basis scientific advancement, what are essentially useless answers will not further the progress of science in any way.

That is why science often reject "God did it" as an answer to a question. It does not answer the question, nor does it explain how things work.
