It seems the days of hiding behind the so called anonymity of the internet may be over

There is no real anonymity on the internet. You can post something with a fake name and email address, but you can still be identified if the government or LE (or your server provider, or this forum owner if they really want to) really wants to find you. All kinds of data gets passed between your computer and the servers via HTML headers, java, flash, media players, etc. If you have registered a software product from your computer over the internet you are most likely identifiable. Even hiding your IP is difficult. Not even highy anonymous proxies and routers can keep you anonymous.

Well, from now on I'm doing all my libeling from a designated laptop on a stolen wi-fi connection. Using Knoppix Linnux.

Although I first have to say "probably about 10 years older than your current age - no matter what that is!!" lol:p

But seriously - think of all those times when debating someone and they ripped the writer of some blog somewhere a new one referring to them as, well whatever, now of course the blogger has a legal come back.

This should prove REAL interesting when it comes to some of the conspiracy theory sites

Sits back and starts to enjoy some popcorn and then thinks "Will the writers of those "vaccines are deadly" websites now be liable to damage to children who did not get vaccinated and caught the disease?"

Well, I'd like to see that, too. Since the charge of libel is commonly met with the "truth defense", the courts would then have to determine the facts of these things. This would actually allow people to try to prove their case in court, when if they had filed the case to begin with, it would likely have been dismissed without investigation as "frivolous".

At one point our defamation laws did not have a "truth defence" all it required was to prove damage.

    http://www.qpilch.org.au/resources/factsheets/Defamation.htm

And since, unlike America, we do not have a "freedom of speech" clause in OUR constitution our politicians can and do launch defamation suits against those who oppose them. A famous example of this was Joh Bjelke Petersen who launched in the orde rof 20 defamation suits some of which were against the leader of the opposition!!

Interestingly when the worst offender was in power - he was LOVED by a large number of Queenslanders because he kept telling us how well off we were and how we did not have to worry. The rest of us wanted him hung, drawn, quartered, hung again, salted and staked on an ant hill!!!

But this is also why I do not want a "Freedom of Speech" clause written down somewhere because when that happens people become complacent. Freedom of speech should be fought for every single day!!

Maybe. Porn is better on a big screen, especially when you are watching Milena Velba's breasts. I guess its technically not porn, but close.
