Susan Collins has joined two other GOP Senators in a critique of Mitch McConnell's promise to be completely biased in any Senate trial of Trump.

So what? You know as well as I do these folks say one thing and do another. Besides the Dem's un-peachment effort has stalled.

    LOL, Susan Collins.

In case you missed it, this isn’t a court of law. Of course it will be political but at least probably more fair than the House dem clown show.

So bias is good for the Democrats but bad for the Republicans?

You gotta love partisan extremists and their double standards ---- it's ok if Dems do it, but if Republicans do the same thing it's baaaad!!!!! :angered:

If that's your definition of a "dam cracking", we have a long way to go. Both Lindsey and Mitchy the Kid should be universally condemned for verbalizing their stances, wherever you stand on the final vote.

It takes a special concoction of stupid that would send you to a microphone and say you're not going to be impartial in a process you have to swear an oath to be impartial for....

No cracks yet... just a lot of crackpots...

Meh, dems have been promising to impeach Trump before he took the oath. Politics. Get used to it.

I love how the left is carrying itself as if the House vote wasn't partisan. Lol.

GOP Sen. Susan Collins Sides With Mitch McConnell On Impeachment Trial

...Collins’ stance on the parameters of the impeachment trial aligns her with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who has all but promised a swift acquittal of Trump. McConnell has argued for following the framework of the 1999 impeachment trial of President Bill Clinton, which punted a decision on witness testimony until after the initial arguments and senatorial questioning.

“We haven’t ruled out witnesses,” McConnell said last week in a “Fox & Friends” interview. “We’ve said let’s handle this case just like we did with President Clinton. Fair is fair.”

And I love how the right has decided the House vote is comparable with the Senate vote.... one is essentially a slap on the wrist.... one carries huge consequences....

I'll let you guess which is which...

When a prosecutor indicts a person, there's nothing non-biased about it. That prosecutor wants that person in jail and thinks the evidence is strong enough. That's what the House's role is.

The Senate, however, is supposed to be non-biased. Senators have to take an oath of (by tradition) impartiality. House members do not. The House's role is NOT impartial. The Senate's is.

I'm sure many believe it has a majority bi-partisan support.

How are they any different than all the democrats in the house who have said they were going to impeach Trump long before there was any talk about Ukraine?

There plan has been to impeach Trump all along, they just needed a plan.

Does the same condemnation apply to chuckie schumer and the left in general?

Democratic critics argued that McConnell's statement was tantamount to rigging the trial. McConnell defended his position saying that Democratic Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle coordinated with the Clinton White House during the earlier impeachment. Daschle acknowledged that his staff coordinated with the Clinton administration.

SEN. CHUCK SCHUMER (D-NY): We have a pre-opinion. This is not a criminal trial. But this is something that the Founding Fathers decided to put in a body that was susceptible to the whims of politics. So therefore, anybody taking an oath tomorrow can have a pre-opinion...

And, also, it's not like a jury box, in the sense that people will call us and lobby us. You don't have jurors call and lobby and things like that. I mean, it's quite different than a jury

Seriously? You don't see the difference there?

One is just bluster, since they didn't remotely have the power to do so until 2019 (I almost said this year.... ha ha)

The other are JURORS.... they will be making a decision on whether the man stays in office or is dismissed...

It's not remotely surprising that the diehards like Lil Lindsey and Mitchy the Kid will vote to acquit... but you don't think it's a little disingenuous to not even pretend??

And PS, Trump DESERVED to have full impeachment hearings in Dec 2018, when he was named as the instigator in a criminal act... FYI...

What makes you think Susan Collins was ever in support of Mitch McConnell. She has never been relied upon as a sure Republican vote. Your OP is a nothingburger as far as "news" goes.

After Adam Schiff’s performance in the house, nobody expects anything but a partisan vote in the senate.

This is nothing but partisan politics.
Even my liberal friends admit Schiff had a predetermined outcome before the inquiry began and the same thing will happen in the senate.

A couple democrats sided with the republicans only to help themselves in their next election.

Only a partisan hypocrite would applaud Schiff an then criticize McConnell for not being impartial.

    What was the criminal act?
Even if he was guilty of withholding aid, it is not against the law. It won’t get him arrested.

    At worst it is unethical.

Trumps Impeachment Trial should be based on Facts ands not a Partisan effort.

If not the Voters will eradicate the Republicans in the Elections over how they Failed in a true Trial

Trumps corruption appears it might destroy the Republican Party

The impeachment was no more "partisan" than the GOP Sham in 1998.

Actually, it's a little more nuanced than that. The investigator hands it to the District Attorney(or the would be prosecutor), and the prosecutor decides whether or not the evidence is fit to stand trial at all. Why? Because the DA doesn't want to lose a case. The politics of a DA losing a major case(now, politics shouldn't be in justice but that's a separate issue) is major.

This is why plea deals are exploding also. Lesser the sentence, get the DA a win. Here, the House said "We could strengthen our case if we took the time, but you know what? F it, send it anyway and see if we can get the Senate to do our job for us."

Agreed, can we then also agree the House shouldn't have done it, and if the ultimate decision will be up to us the voters in 2020, that's how it should have been without Congressional interference?

Meanwhile the GOP is stronger then ever and raising a boat load of money for 2020.

A majority of Americans know that if trump wasn't there all the arrows Democrats sling at him would be slung at America and Americans.
