So according to Obama affordable light bulb is $50? Electric car once again shows they are over priced and not dependable http://www.washingtonpost.com/busin...ly-price-tag/2012/03/07/gIQAFxOD0R_story.html http://autos.yahoo.com/news/bad-karma--our-fisker-karma-plug-in-hybrid-breaks-down.html
Sounds like the misadventres of Car and Driver with the Saturn EV-1 electric car - the most unreliable car they ever tested.
Theory says LED's can get close to 100% power to light conversion (they are at 50% now). Incandescent bulbs are about 5%. LED's can also dim without changing color, and tri-color LED's can create any color you want. But, the existing lighting fixtures are hostile to LED bulbs, so they aren't ready for prime time for home lighting. On the other hand. flashlights have pretty much moved to LED's, including really cheap ones. The first CCFL's were expensive, and I saw a 50% failure rate at the first turn on. Now, they are much better in price and reliability. Like many things green, unreliable / unproven products are foiseted off as the next best thing to save the planet. No surprise, the public isn't amused with crappy products. And the greenies are puzzled why the next time they cry wolf, everyone ignores them.
