Link: Every car available with a manual transmission Spoiler alert: the list is shorter than it used to be - for those of us who prefer driving a car as opposed to just steering it. ...the manual transmission is on the way out. People like automatics for the convenience; they can be faster than manually shifting, and they’re frequently better at saving fuel. But the manual still has advantages. It’s small and light, it’s still sometimes more affordable than an equivalent automatic model, and, of course, it’s much more engaging than an automatic. For these reasons, automakers are still selling a variety of models with manuals... Using a manual transmission automatically - pun intended - requires the driver to be more engaged with the vehicle. By listening & 'feeling' to know when to shift, you're inherently paying more attention to the performance of the drive train & suspension. Plus it's more fun. But that's just me. Your mileage may vary.
Manual, all day, every day. I drive one every day at work. Semi trucks with automatic transmissions are horrible. I want to upshift or downshift when I know I need to, not when the computer thinks it needs to. I'm pretty sure I have about 30 years more experience driving a truck than that computer does.
Sports cars are also much more fun with a manual. You won't see many (or any) high-performance professional racing cars that are automatic.
My first car had a four speed. I got 62,000 miles out of the first clutch. I had it replaced, and it started giving me trouble after 3,000 miles. In addition to the inconvenience of the manual transmission, I had that problem. My answer is I will only buy cars with automatic transmission. Since I prefer larger luxury cars, that’s all I can buy. It is possible to get the Cadillac big engine sports V cars with gear box. I watched a guy shifting through the six gears on the home on a free ride from the dealership. No thank you!
I didn’t know that there still were trucks made with an automatic transmission. My father had one in the mid 1960s, it was the pits. It had lift calluses under it from all the times it was in the shop.
I had to go with Automatic because I am not the only person who drives our vehicle..... so I went with the choice that is more likely to lead to me being free to NOT drive quite so much!
