    ok I will start..

what shows are your guilty pleasure or the show you love to hate

before Rush Limbaugh became wacked out on Percodan's I listened to him...although I did not always agree with him, I could listen to him and sometimes even agree with him...then the more drugs he ate, the crazier he became then the less I listened...then he plead guilty to drug charges and after a few months in rehab he returned to the airways.. he then became so far out there and so insane I began to laugh at him and when I did listen, I considered it a guilty pleasure

when podcasts started I listened to Rogan alot...I considered listening to him a guilty pleasure because for many years Rogan denied the moon landing..how smart can a guy be that believes the moon landing was fake?? but Rogan alwasy had good guests and could talk about nothing for hours..I could put his podcast on and next thing I knew 3 or 4 hours had passed and Rogan basically became white noise

the show I listen to now and currently considered a guilty pleasure is Megan Kellys podcast..I have no doubt had this woman been born in a body not so slim and a face not so perfect she would be an associate second rate attorney for a small town law firm and representing plaintiffs in divorce cases..but she was born good looking, and I would bet she did a little more for Roger Ailes than just twirl around for him!! she aint that smart..but she does get decent guests...and her podcast is free.

the other show I love to hate is Bill Mahers show..I watched his show pre-strike despite about half the time it pissed me off...he should still be on air as far as I am concerned ...his material is 100% political based comedy...and guess what?? the politicians write the comedy themselves..who needs a writer to make a joke about Margorie Taylor Green??
or donald trump?? or Ted Cruz?? or Rhonda Santos?? all these guys are easy pickings and write their own material..comedians just need to report what they do and it will be funny

anybody else care to share what is thier guilty pleasure broadcast??

Coming as I do from a position outside the present red and blue camps, I listen to and read sources of both groups. Some of them are downright risible, but doing so enables me to gauge the pulses of the combatants.

    Regards, stay safe 'n well.

    first, I was wrong ,

I thought this thread may get some traction and be an interesting topic to read about

I must apologize for such a dud of a thread

I thought I would get a few more replies from either side of the political spectrum on this topic

but one thing I was right about it

despite being the number one broadcast TV talk show

NOBODY would admit to waching the view!! lol....

This is the most interesting thing anybody has ever written on this site. Imagine a participant here admitting that they are not the fountain of all knowledge and wisdom.

I will agree with you that I am wrong, as well. After all, only God can be right [in absolute terms]. And it took Him a long time to figure it out!

Btw, I listen to Jordan Peterson's podcast on a regular basis as he has some incredibly interesting guests and delves into all kinds of subject-matter with intensity. Worth checking out no matter your stripes.

I also listen to the Canadian at times. And yea he can be interesting. But I don’t consider him a guilty pleasure or someone I don’t like but listen to anyway

Peterson gets carried away and for some reason celebrities like him take themselves so damn seriously

Peterson , like Joe Rogan , Megan Kelly, Bill Maher are just entertainers

the material they use is not rocket science I mean how easy is it to second guess everything??

yea the Iraq war was bad. Covid could have been handled differently. Joe Biden and Donald Trump should have been investigated prior to running for president..see what I mean. Second guessing everything is easy

Why would you listen to somebody you don't like?

So you are suggesting that a person should only listen to celebrities that he/she agrees with…does liking a person make them more informed than than a person with whom you don’t like

personally I believe it is important to try and understand 2 or 3 sides to an issue being discussed

    remember the quote

“better try to understand that be understood “

    with that said.

Yes I listen to people I don’t like

Bill Maher and Megan Kelly are 2..there are a few others I don’t like.

but to name a couple celebrities I do like to listen .
Scott Gallaway and Kara Swisher each have a podcast and do one together .they are both very wealthy and many times have views which I agree

and when listening to comedy I like Lewis Black ,Bill Burr, and Kathleen Madigan to name a few

As well, I attempt to listen to all sides. With so many options out there, you can find interesting and reasonable people who present all kinds of views. Has this not been your experience?

    As far as podcasts go...

Russell Brand's Stay Free: First of all, I regard this guy as a nut in most ways since he is a commie, and constantly sounds like he's talking at double speed (or taking speed). But... the guy is smart and articulate (if you can hang on for the run on sentences). Commie though he may be, he's a populist Commie, which puts him on the opposite side of his usual fellow travelers on most issues, including on free speech ones. However he seems to be a great interviewer and seems to play fair.

The Byron York Show: Conservative reporter, and reporter in the old sense in that he digs into the story and gives the facts. His podcasts are short, and concise with a just-the-facts attitude and can quickly bring you up to speed on the issue.

Triggernometry: Two Brit comedians are probably the last remaining "Intellectual Dark Web" members. They were probably leftists before cancel culture threatened their careers and are gradually moving right over time. I discovered them a while back when the podcast made big news for their Sam Harris interview when Harris self immolated.

Alienating the Audience: Strictly nerd-speak. A podcast about science fiction with a concentration in Star Trek.

Actually I listen to a lot more than these but these are a sample.

It has been my experience because I choose to listen to more than one view

but if a person only watches Fox News or CNN or MSNBC or Breibart news then this person becomes closed minded

This was my intention when starting this thread ..

I am curious if others here also attempt to listen to opposing views and listen to people whom they do particularly care for

from then replies to this thread I think I may be able to conclude most here only listen to celebrities they like .

    Thank you for the reply

because of this reply , I will surely search and listen to one or more of the podcasts you mention

I have listened to Russell Brand in the past ..his accent and voice is not pleasing to me at all .and for whatever reason I don’t care much for foreigners that take cheap shots at Americans .and yes I do understand the USA is an easy target Sometimes too easy!! Lol.

Thanks again for the reply and information about who you find interesting

and I failed to mention Sam Harris. I enjoy listening to his show also

I used to listen to Sam Harris' podcast on occasion, however post Triggernometry interview, I can't take him seriously anymore.

I don't listen to podcasts, or talk radio of any kind, and certain tv and movie genres. I am a big fan of Star Trek and Star Wars equally. I like them both and yes they are fantasy. I just don't go dressing up as a Klingon or Romulan or Capt Kirk or whatever. I generally don't watch reality TV shows like Naked and Afraid, Survivor, Big Brother, and others, although that is probably what Fox, NBC, CBS, and ABC will be showing more of this fall due to the writer's and actors' strike. The FBI and NCIS series is my guilty pleasure TV shows. They are not real, but I like their dialogue and acting for the most part. And that is really the ones I watch on every new episode. But recently, I have been streaming shows such as Mannix, Barney Miller, the Old Night Court, Cheers, and other classic TV shows from my childhood and youth. Just for nostalgic reasons.

I don’t listen to radio anymore, but back in the day when I was driving a lot, Paul Harvey was always amusing, and for a while, Reagan had a daily radio spot and his aw shucks manner was deceptively appealing.

When I think about 'guilty pleasures' my mind doesn't immediately go to anything political in nature. I'm far more superficial than that! My guilty pleasures run toward the kind of reality shows that display the worst of human nature. People know they will be watched by millions and they CHOOSE to present themselves as nasty, back stabbing liars. I find that fascinating.

politics and polticians are exactly like reality shows and contestants .. they display the worst of human nature. People know they will be watched by millions and they CHOOSE to present themselves as nasty, back stabbing liars. I find that fascinating

Indeed its fascinating. But those are people that actually impact our lives. When I'm looking for guilty pleasures I'm not looking for things that will disturb me. That's the difference.

I agree , politics and politicians can impact our lives

    BUT

despite whichever party has the platform and power at any given time,

I will never blame politics on my failures or give politics credit for my victories

in my life I have lived through every president from JFK to JRB,,

    I will be fine ..

and sadly, politics has been reduced to a game show like atmosphere.

    oh wait

Trump is a game show host!!

Unfortunately they broke the mold after Harvey was cast. We could use someone like him today.

I listened to Sam Harris today on the episode you suggest

seems to me he has been very consistent about his political leanings

He is tough on trumpeters and the woke as well

I agree that both the trumpers and the woke are both on the fringe of the right or left but make the most noise ..

Not sure what Harris could what he could have said that makes you not take him seriously

the guy seeems smart to me
