Gun banners won't put their money where their mouth is.

let's examine the obvious mendacity of the anti gun advocates

1) "we have to ban semi auto rifles to stop mass shootings"

a) reality check-ALL RIFLES are used in less than 2% of the murders and 22 rimfire rifles are used in more murders because they are the most common rifle around-even more so than AR 15s-that were not linked to any murderous activity for the first several decades they were available

2) we have to ban semi auto rifles to stop criminals from getting them and using them to harm others

b) reality check-handguns are used in over 3 out of every four murder an even higher percentage of gunshot murders

Conclusion-if stopping crime REALLY motivates gun banners-then they HAVE TO WANT TO BAN HANDGUNS

 

And you can see the reality of that in countries that are far down the slope to completely losing their gun rights.

To the extent they are still allowed to have guns...... Handguns are by far the most difficult to legally possess.

 

the main push to ban "assault weapons" is political/cultural warfare, not crime control

years ago-the handgun ban inc group noted why handguns should be banned

1) they are easily concealable (yes)
2) they are far more likely to be used for crime (yes)
3) they are not "militia weapons" (bullshit but handguns are not issued to all infantry-but as the marines say-every marine is a rifleman)
4) they are not useful for hunting (as if that has anything to do with the second, but handguns are the least popular firearm for hunting)
5) handguns are cheap ( back then you could buy a POS pistol like a Raven for 45 dollars_

Now they want to ban semi auto rifles which are

1) hard to conceal
2) not likely to be used for crime
3) the closest thing to militia weapons you can own since the 1986 hughes amendment
4) very useful for hunting
5) usually expensive

meaning gun banners want to ban guns but the main attack on rifles is because those weapons are seen as

a) more likely to be owned by pro gun advocates vs pistols (I know lots of lefties who own handguns for personal protection-Diane Feinswine famously had a CCW and a permit as did the anti gun chairman of the NY Times newspaper and anti gun Joan Rivers)
b) is seen as a tool to resist big government-something the left wing hates
