This is why we MUST do everything we can to protect our Second Amendment in the United States... Laws that forbid the carrying of arms disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. ~Thomas Jefferson
Thanks for posting that video, oh it brought back memories to an old fellow like me. Back when I was young and that video was made. Oh I go back further, to the days before the gun control, even had a few riffles myself, oh I still do. Registered, licensed, locked away. You know, one for foxes, a .222 Remington actually, and my grandfathers old shot gun. I am so pleased that not every fool that wants to have a big gun can get one, and although your here bs statements about the crime rate, intelligent analysis show it is lower then what it would have been if guns were allowed. Any bloody fool can see that. It's not hard to get a gun illegally here, but it's a bloody lot harder then it is to get one in the US, especially some states .. "I'll have two cheesburgers, two large cokes, and an apple pie please". "That's two cheesburgers, two large cokes, and an apple pie. Do you want you want chips or a gun with that?". "Yes thanks, and I'll upsize it". "That's two cheesburgers, two large cokes, and an apple pie, chips and a gun. What was it you wanted upsized, the chips or the gun????????" Wake up America before you destroy yourselves.
Oh and we have universal health care too, oh and the latest bloomburgs says we are the 3rd healthiest country in the world and you 33rd. Aren't you glad you don't live in Australia .... because we are glad you don't too.
I live in an inner Sydney suburb. It would have one of the highest number of blacks, gays and drug users in Sydney. I am 59 years old and have a walking stick due to a hip replacement. The suburb is Redfern google it and see how bad it is supposed to be. But I feel safer walking these streets at night then I do in Tamworth, a small country city and the "Country Music Capital of Australia". It also has one of the highest gun ownership rates in Australia, the highest drug problem per capita, highest assault with a weapon per capita, one place I do not feel safe in at night. Oh and I lived in Tamworth for ten years, married a lass from there. Moved back to Sydney when she passed away 15 years ago. I have never seen a truthful thing said by pro-gun people. Oh and I know weapons. Spent 10 years in the Australian Army and grew up on a rural property. In my youth I hunted pigs and foxes professionally.
Oh my friend, if anyone tried to mess with me or my family they would wish I did have a gun. As for property, that is not worth pulling out a gun for.

Your analysis of American gun culture (law-abiding, that is) is distorted like most liberal rant. America did fine with almost every family owning guns for over 200 years, until the liberals thought that they would re-invent America, and (*)(*)(*)(*) it up.
percentages look good dont they. There is a famous saying ... there are three kinds of lies. Big lies, bloody big lies and percentages. Percentages mean nothing without looking at the sample size. For instance, I would rather see a 20% increase in murder then a 5% increase in the road toll. Why, because a 5% increase in road toll is a hell of a lot more people dying. Say we have 260 murders a year (2010), a 5% increase is 13. 1509 people died on the road in 2009, a 5% increase here is 75 people. So 20% murders is 52, still lower. See percentages alone mean jack(*)(*)(*)(*)
As is your video of Australian gun laws, a distorted rant. ITS A LIE. The ONLY way you can justify you big gun is by lying, it's been shown over and over again. Keep your (*)(*)(*)(*) in your house. You dragged Australia into your fight because you don't have any other ammo (pun intended) so you throw lumps of (*)(*)(*)(*). LMFAO at you yanks, your so full of it.
It decreased only slightly after the ban but went right back up to where it was before so the ban really did nothing but destroy law abiding citizens guns. Great move.
Its amusing to read a post about gun control from the US of A...the land where their kids take guns to school and kill each other... the land which constantly glorifies itself wherever possible with its television programmes, the land which promotes the use of and ownership of guns with its television programmes...buy a gun, use a gun, blast that sucker away, waste him, yeah... the land which attempts to Americanize the rest of the world, the land which invades any country they feel like, because they think they are the protectors of the world, the land which keeps the war effort going just so as they can continue to wield their big stick, the land which I would never, ever want to live in, the land which thinks they are better than the rest of the world................ Hows that workin' for ya........yo all have a good day now..ya hear....... Dont start me on 9/11 and conspiracy theories and JFK etc.....maybe, just maybe....
Guns are not banned in Australia. With the right documentation and a police check I can go out and buy a gun. As you said, gun homicides have declined in Australia. From the Australian Institiute of Criminology. "The percentage of homicides committed with a firearm continued a declining trend which began in 1969. In 2003, fewer than 16% of homicides involved firearms. The figure was similar in 2002 and 2001, down from a high of 44% in 1968." [ http://aic.gov.au/statistics/homicide.aspx
I don't give a rat's arse if kids are blown away in schools in America,, as long as this stupid mentality isn't exported to Australia.
This video is a pile of crap. After the Port Arthur Massacre in 1996, people took to the streets to have tighter gun control. The Howard Government (rightwingers for you uneducated Americans) listened and gun laws were tightened. Democracy at its best. These idiots in this video are the pro-gun lobby. Talk to any Australian in the street and they'll tell you, take guns out of Australian society. We don't want or need them.
Semiautomatic rifles are still legal as long as you have a licence for them. It's a bit harder to get than a licence for a bolt action rifle, but it's possible if you have a reason, such as being a primary producer, kangaroo shooter, etc.
And I will also point out that it was the Liberal Party (not a liberal party at all but a conservative party) that came up with the gun buy back scheme.
And Australia is looking at perhaps having less than 300 murders this year last I checked. That's out of a population of 23 million people. Oh no, it's totally scary here how violent and murderous it is!
