Santa knows who's been naughty and who's been nice and he just gave the UN a big lump of coal in their Christmas stocking. About time and merry Christmas UN.

"Haley said the plan calls for a $285 million cut for the 2018-19 fiscal year."

“The inefficiency and overspending of the United Nations are well known,” Haley said. “We will no longer let the generosity of the American people be taken advantage of or remain unchecked."

"The U.S. pays about 22 percent of the U.N.’s budget, or roughly $3.3 billion, and fully 28 percent of its peacekeeping effort."

    With out the USA ?

It would be chaos but funny as hell without the USA protecting socialist Europe...and the shipping lanes of the world.

I recall Russia not even able to control eastern Europe and lost it without a war.
So what kind of protecting think is needed again?

The U.S. paying all that money and some countries only paying $25K. Though, I think the newest figures are that they pay around $28K, and their vote can change the world. I wonder how many of those countries receive gifts from the U.S. in millions or billions?

Take that money saved to raze the UN building complex from NYC, and haul the rubble to the seas to make homes for homeless fish.

USA is what spreads war and chaos. Since the american imperialism starts to crumble.

Also where do you see "socialist Europe"? All last elections in evry single european nation were won by right or even far right parties.

Your trump is a socialist compared to french president Macron, austrian chancellor Kurz or hungaries president Orban.

But what do i expect from an american. You could not even spot Canada on a map.

No. I don't see their value. I see the U.N. as another layer of government, which is not very effective and extremely expensive. Those smaller nations simply bog down the process and waste time and money. It would seem the five nations who do have veto power or rather, any nation with veto power should have to split the cost equally. There is already an extra cost to us for the land, building and security for the one in New York.

but he is correct in many ways
in most of europe socialism/left is loosing influence and votes to center or right and in some places extreem right

    belgium for example
south was a socialist bastion for decades if not a century, now its crumbling (unfortunatly communists stealing the votes)
north socialism is down to 9-10% and is the same size as extreem right now (rough total of 80/20 right vs left here)

france socialists lost to a centric banker lover

    austrian extreem right won

netherlands the number 2 biggest party there is the party that wants to kick the muslims out of the country (and more specific marrocans)

Spain wel catalonia showed us the neo fascists are stil very much alive there, when you crack down on civilians like they did during the referendum and other regions of spain suddently start waving franco his flag as a sign of unity in the streets you know what direction that people is leaning

in hungary you got orban in power

and poland is going the way of the rightwing dictator at the rate its going

The obvious are the 65 that abstained and the 9 that voted with US, the rest I would be speculating.
