Not incorrectly, just that it refers to an idol that the Philistines considered a god. Any carved image that is used as an idol is just that. A carved image.

 

No the ark is brought to the temple of Dagon and the idol is found first bowing to the ark and later mutilated. But Dagon doesn't approach the ark.
