Happy Christopher Columbus Day!!!! Have any of you conquerors returned the indians' land?

Because nothing quite says you stand with the natives like renaming a holiday about which nobody cares. I suspect most lefties will do what they always do and give lip service to the issue but make no actual effort. They'll call him a terrible person but happily enjoy the fruits of his voyages.

liberals will tell you your attitude does nothing to help the indians, but renaming holidays and land acknowledgements definitely make their lives better.

 

if only they would have Converted to Christianity like the settlers wanted, they would have been fine, that is the way convert or kill works

of course they did outlaw the Peyote religion for everyone but the Indians even to this day

 

I am about one sixteenth Native American. I am looking forward to when they pay me back what we paid for our land.

I work in the oilfield. NO holidays exist. They don't care if there is a comet about to hit the Earth 17 minutes from now, we are still going to rig up....

If you're working offshore then things require constant attention. I've spent time on rigs in a companyman capacity. I worked my regular 9 hour day, but the thing was always busy. If you're late, then someone who just pulled 12 hours is waiting on you.

The Spaniards took the Native American's land. Then down through the ages, they sold that land to people. Now since I already owned the land, I paid for the land which I already owned. I should get my money back.

Well my great great (7x greats) grandfather got land that was legitimately acquired in trade from a Native tribe in exchange for helping them defeat another Native tribe (it may well have been land that was contested and being fought over by those tribes and the Brittish just sided with the one who stood to gain *and trade* more of that land...). Now the state owns that land. So I 'stand with the Natives' because govt took my ancestral land too! Tho I suspect there's a bit more too it than that, maybe a death with no heir, tax issues or perhaps a witless ancestor sold it for booze money... w/e it was is long since lost to history... but either way, Christopher Columbus was kinda a terrible person. Bold and skilled explorer who made great contributions to history and civilization ...but also a terrible person.

And IDC what the holiday is called. Its a celebration of the discovery of the new world. Pretty much everyone knows that regardless of what the name is.

 

It's not that Columbus discovered the new world. He kicked off the expansion into the New World. The conquest of the indians was an inevitability. They were still essentially neolithic civilizations that had no chance against the more advanced Europeans.

No one owned land. They just happened to be there just like every civilization that moved in. Better civilizations take over the inferior ones. That’s humanity.
