It's a little early but I thought I would go ahead and wish everyone a happy father's day. Thank you to all the dad's out there and keep up the good work. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrinR_s_f5w"]YouTube - ‪Catch‬‏[/ame] I still remember the first time I played catch with my own father. It was a bright sunny afternoon on a hot day with a cool breeze blowing through. We talked while we tossed the ball back and forth and we laughed about all kinds of silly things. Who can forget the first time you played catch with your own father? Of course this was last year so I haven't really had time to forget yet, but still, you're always making memories. Tell everyone about your own experiences with your father that you still cherish to this day.
Hehh...my Dad worked abroad a lot and he was very definitely a man's man. But when he was home, he always made time for each of us and he somehow found things we could do together, which any parent will tell you is really not easy. I remember many many activities, he was a very active person. We flew remote control model aircraft which we built together (he was in the RAF for a bit), we sailed remote control boats...which we built together. We put up aerial after aerial for ham radio gear (he was in communications in the RAF ). We rowed boats, walked hills, trained dogs, fished, played tennis, golf, snooker, table tennis, darts, swimming, diving...every game known to man. Every Wednesday, wherever we were, we all met up for dinner in the local Italian. Sometimes we brought friends, workmates, partners...good company. At this time of year, I remember working in the garden with my Dad. We both liked working outdoors. This day, we were painting a fence (we'd already built together from old pallets ) and he went into the shed for something and called me because there was a beautiful Red Admiral butterfly trapped inside the shed. I carefully lifted it, trying not to touch the wings and avoid damage, then let it go outside to fly off. It was a beautiful sunny day and we stood watching it flit across the garden, alighting momentarily on colourful flowers, a perfect vision.... Then wham. The big orange cat shot out of a bush and flattened the butterfly. Ah well. Back to work...
This Father's Day will be very difficult because it will be the first one without my Dad, who died in April. My plans are to light candles in his memory and send appreciation to him for being such a wonderful dad.
I am sorry to hear that. I know that must be rough, and although it won't be the same we can always hold a vote to see who can be your PF dad. Of course then he'll owe you birthday and christmas presents. That actually doesn't sound bad.
My father has been gone these many years now but the memory of him will live forever in my heart. Miss him, mourn him and honor him Viv. But above all keep him alive in your heart.
