https://edition.cnn.com/2020/11/30/politics/historic-firsts-biden-administration/index.html “Several of President-elect Joe Biden's nominees would make history if confirmed by the United States Senate to serve in top roles in his incoming administration. Since winning the election, Biden has made moves to carry out his campaign promise of building an administration that looks like and reflects the diversity of America. Vice President-elect Kamala Harris has already shattered a monumental barrier by becoming the first woman elected Vice President.” President elect Biden proving that it is perfectly possible to build a cabinet of competent, intelligent, experienced people that reflect the diversity of the country. Everyone should be able to celebrate that.
Think I'll wait to see how diversity central functions before I start dancing in the streets. I wish him well, really, but with the level of berserker partisanship over the last ten years Christ Himself would have hard go of it.
Nothing about Kamala makes her qualified for the position though. If everything about her personality and political career was exactly the same but she was a white male, she would not even be considered for the position. The fact is she was not brought on because of her qualifications and is merely a supplicant to their base. That's just disrespectful and degrading as far as I'm concerned.
The secretary of the treasury is so unqualified he makes Geithner look like a saint. I would veto that instantly. Like, don't even bother to show up. No expertise in running anything, just as an 'advisor' to the Obama regime. Neera Tandem is also TOTALLY unqualified for her post.(And well, half the list lacks the qualifications I look for, namely experience in a similar or appropriate post.). The best pick is Yallen, but I wonder if she can survive the 'stench' of Trump for democrats.
Dan Quayle had about the same qualifications (or lack of), so I'm not sure what you say is an absolute truth.
Diversity for diversity's sake only? No thanks. I want the most qualified people and I don't care what color or sex they are. Folks can shove identity politics where the sun doesn't shine.
The list was truly disheartening to read. If confirmed, we'd have a treasury secretary with NO expertise in running anything close to a treasury. Yes, that's exactly what we need as we fight the economic calamities of the coronavirus. Someone with on the job training.
Yeah, picking Harris is a first - the first time a person who selected as VP someone who called him a racist and abuser of women.
It always comes back to Dan Quayle. The man spent 8 years in the Senate and 4 years in the house of Representatives while Kamala hadn't even finished her first term in office. She spent most of her time campaigning than actually doing any work. So yes... Quayle was more experienced.
Since 2017, anyone can hold any position at WH. Even being the children of the POTUS automatically qualifies you.
So basically you are celebrating skin tone instead of policies? I guess that's cool for race obsessed people. Its not cool for people that don't care about the color of the person implementing policy, just the policy itself. maybe someday the LEFT will care about substance over looks, but I highly doubt it
There’s no such thing as the “best” person for the job. There are lots of people who have the intelligence and experience to do any cabinet position. It is always a choice. And what Biden is proving is that there are enough people to fill a cabinet without limiting the options to what we’ve seen in the past.
No I’m congratulating him for recognising that the talent pool is deep enough that it’s easy to staff a cabinet that looks like America.
I'll "give it a chance"(namely because I don't have any other choice), but several of these choices will face a hard battle to confirmation(and not because they're the mean Republicans), objectively look at the treasury secretary, you couldn't find me a more qualified person then him? He has ZERO expertise for the position. None, at all. He'll have to hit the ground running on financial policy in midst of a pandemic. This isn't the time for government training.
That's nice. Now care to actually comment on what I said or are you more interested in trying to make jabs at people in an attempt to link me in support of said people?
Does any of this really matter when these people are hand picked by the same guy who only chose his extremely unpopular VP because of her skin color and sex? If a minority or a woman is to be heralded as a "first ever", don't you think they should earn it? Take Jackie Robinson for example... First black to play in the MLB in 1947. He wasn't just Rookie of the Year, he was also an All-Star for 6 consecutive seasons and played in several World Series. A man who deserved every bit of praise he got. Now take a look at Kamala Harris... Imprisoned more blacks for petty crime than any other AG, didn't get more than 2% of the vote in the primaries, her only shining moment was when she called Joe Biden out for not supporting racial integration because he didn't want his kids growing up in a jungle, and was chosen ONLY because she was a black female and no other reason. Are you really praising that?
Sorry, he was deputy secretary(IE: #2). This brings the other question, did she consent to it or was she forced into it? Of course, him learning under someone like Yellen is a lot better than the fear I had of someone totally unexperienced running the treasury. The Tandem pick has the same cringe. This cabinet lacks experience overall and Biden's going to have to pull them together.
Was Dan Quayle held on a pedestal for shattering a monumental barrier or are you just throwing whataboutisms out there to see if something can stick?
Yet to be seen, I wish this new cabinet the best of luck. But several of them were at best in advisory roles, and none of them had executive decisions to make. Now, they have executive decisions to make within their various departments. And hey, they might make brilliant choices or bad ones, it's yet to be seen.
