The only thing "alarming" here is someone trying to pass +57% off as 'almost double'. But do tell - why did the rate jump so much in 2020 and then remain high in 2021?
This is a great video if you want to learn about the real history of the Second Amendment. Some important points in it: 1) Bearing arms was viewed as an individual responsibility and a collective right when the Second Amendment was written. A citizen had an obligation to bear arms but the right was exercised collectively by the people. 2) If modern gun rights ideology had prevailed in the late 18th Century, the US would not have gained its independence from Britain. It takes regulation to organize an effective fighting force. 3) The Founding Fathers feared the state militias would be disarmed by government inaction. Modern day gun activists fear government intervention but late 18th Century Americans feared the opposite. 4) The individual rights interpretation became more popular during the 19th Century especially in the slave states where many people wanted to carry concealed weapons for self defense.
He constantly makes stuff up and pretends it is fact. He cannot find a single leading legal scholar who supports that nonsense
Saul Cornell is pretty much a joke-he's a paid whore of the anti gun movement and he constantly lies about numerous issues concerning gun rights. He has no legal education and he pretends that state law somehow proves that federal law was intended to regulate small arms. Most importantly, he never can explain where the federal government was delegated any proper power to regulate firearms in article one section eight #2 is a real whoppper-an individual right to keep and bear arms free from federal interference is in no way a barrier to people organizing to fight against an oppressive force. Think about what Cornell is claiming-we didn't have a constitution or a bill of rights when we fought the English. This claim of his is such oozing bullshit, you can see why I consider him a joke as a scholar on the issue. Maybe his fan boy will explain what #2 means
I'm so glad all this bickering doesn't happen here. Blue states waste so much time and effort blathering about it. I'm so glad I moved to TEXAS! WHERE FREEDOM LIVES!
the left spends so much time whining about legal gun owners because that serves as a facade to hide the fact that deep down, they want to make things easier for violent criminals and gun control is a fraudulent attempt for them to claim they are doing something about crime
I'd rather learn about the Second Amendment from a historian (who has spend thousands of hours and many years learning about the subject) than a lawyer. A lawyer's job is to be biased and defend one side. The states exercised plenty of control over privately owned guns during the war: "In the 1770s, Pennsylvania enacted a law to bar or strip guns from those who refused to swear loyalty to the new American government. In fact, ten of the thirteen states had laws allowing the impressment—that is, taking—of privately held firearms during the Revolutionary War." https://scholarship.law.duke.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=4825&context=lcp
When my wife and I were dating, she told me she was a hooker. She knew I'd never marry her if I found out she was a lawyer.
Gees, I'm so glad I live in Texas where we avoid all these gun-anti-gun BS arguments. Let the blue states tear themselves up over it. TEXAS! WHERE FREEDOM LIVES!
He's a paid shill for the anti gun movement. He is unable to understand that state laws are exactly why the founders did not give the FEDERAL government ANY powers in this area
however, a guy I knew was a CPA and he never had any luck in bars. So one day his studly friend asked him why he looked so down and he explained he never could pick up chicks. And his friend asked him what he told the women and when he heard, he told the out of luck guy that he should tell women he is a lawyer. So the guy tries that the next time to the bar and within 15 minutes is headed to a hotel room with a hottie. They have a good time and he starts laughing and the hottie said why? And the guy said-hell I've been a lawyer less than an hour and I already screwed someone!
that was mainly referring to two things according to three Scalia clerks I know well-two are major league law professors and one worked with me in the Southern District of Ohio. He was trying to keep Kennedy on board by not overturning the gun control act of 68-that he knew was a violation of the proper interpretation of the commerce clause and had expressed that at some point, and 2) to not interfere with state laws that banned carry concealed weapons in schools etc. McDonald had not been written at that time
In grammar school civics class we learn that there are three branches in the federal government. These are there primary responsibilities: EXECUTIVE (President and subordinate agencies) - ENFORCE THE LAWS LEGISLATIVE (Congress) - MAKE THE LAWS JUDICIAL (Supreme Court - INTERPRET THE LAWS
