And the Militia was all men in the country age 18 and over.

In the earliest days, all men were expected to own a firearm. And to show up at regular meetings and training to show their weapon was functional and that they knew how to use it.

So are you saying we should return to that era? Where several times a year we all have to show up in a city park to prove our rifles work and that we know how to shoot? And to elect our Officers to command us in the event we are called up to service?

 

No, your assertion that congress controls a milita is patently false.

There are exactly eighteen powers of The People that The People have delegated to congress. These are found in article One section Eight of our constitution. Regulating the militia is not one of these powers.

Please keep in mind that I am reading from the Constitution which lists only all powers of government and some restrictions on government. So you had better well read the damn thing.

 

So having done your linguistic research you know what the term "well regulated" means in the context of the constitution.

I just find it funny that you make a whole thread about "well regulated militia" and you don't even know what "well regulated" means, in the context of the constitution.

I know what well regulated means in the context of both the second Amendment and article One section eight. It means the government should provide the militia with modern weaponry.

Here in America it is We The People who get to decide what arms government may possess, not the other way around.

 

Then you're in luck, because I won't. If you have a point to make that is relevant to this discussion, make it. The purpose of the thread you are participating in is mostly to dispel the bogus idea that "every able-bodied male" was automatically member of the "well-regulated militia" mentioned in the Constitution. And you have contributed NOTHING to that topic. So I don't think there is a need to waste any more time with you.

BTW, the DEFINITION I am using of "well regulated militia" is clearly stated in the OP. It's not mine. It's taken from the historian documents I referenced. So clearly you haven't even READ the OP. That's where you're supposed to start.

In Heller v US the Supreme Court held that the "militia" wording in the Second Amendment in no way limited the right of citizens to own and bear arms.

 

They're going to try every end run around the constitution they can think of to disarm us, recently by using presidential executive orders. They're not going to give up.
