This is hilarious! We can't allow violent offenders to buy, or possess a gun, but the state of New York passed a law that seals the records of violent offenders. What's the point of a background check, if laws like this are going to be impacted? The irony is, the people that demand the background checks are the people passing the law.

If someone has done their time then there is no reason we should be punishing them for the duration of their life.

If they are such a danger that it needs to remain on their record indefinitely then they need to remain in prison.

I don’t agree with Democrats being soft on crime, especially theft but I do see why something like this is needed.

So wait, who is it exactly that isn't supposed to have guns again?

I'm on board with ex-cons lawfully exercizing their right to bear arms. I hope we'll extend this to people who have a history of mental illness, but also have a history of successful treatment and/or management of their mental illness. Otherwise we're not just treating them like criminals anymore, but worse than criminals. And then there's the people that went to prison because of an undiagnosed and untreated mental illness... which is probably a lot, or even most of them.

...but regardless, I do wonder about the reasoning of people who want more gun regulations, yet keep undermining how those regulations would be enforced.

I reiterate, I'm on board letting all non-incarcerated adults exercise all of their civil rights. My confusion here is with the gun controllers not legislating consistently. How can you expect gun laws to be enforced when people's records are sealed? You're not just restricting things for the hell of it ...are you?o_O

    ARE YOU???;)

I will when Republicans agree we need to do some about healthcare in this nation, when they stop trying to force rape victims to have their unwilling child, when they get out of the bedroom for consenting adults and their legal affairs, when they stop supporting quasifascists evangelical nutters and when they actually try and to address the tax system.

So it’s unlikely to happen in my lifetime

    snip:

"People convicted of sex crimes are explicitly ineligible, according to the legislative language, which has no effect on media reports concerning past crimes.

The proposal would allow certain employers like law enforcement agencies, courts, prosecutors, schools, and even Uber to access sealed records. The DMV and government officials could also view rap sheets when people respectively apply for driving-related jobs and gun licenses."

To some degree I can agree.

But I'd rather know who I am hiring.

Ah so this law doesn't protect ex-cons from being discrimated against by the govt, only by regular mom-and-pop businesses.

    I should've ****ing guessed.

I am now opposed to this legislation. Its bullshit. Typical politcal elitism. 'You have to hire the criminals ...but we don't.' That will of course extend to whatever big corporations have enough money to bribe their way into the proper security clearance as well.

If ex-cons can be trusted to run a cash register or drive a bus full of people after doing their time, they can be trusted to carry a gun as well. If not, then its not really trust, its just a political agenda.

Because preventing gun crimes isn't the objective. It never was.

What do want to do with the two time losers? Do they get their slate whipped clean too? When you are dealing with sensitive jobs when you have ample opportunities to steal, you need to know a person’s background.

And also the criminals the left, lead by George Soros sponsored DAs, refuse to incarcerate. As Elon Musk has stated, George Soros is doing all he can destroy civilization. The man is rotten and evil to the core, and his son is said to be worse.

I believe those with a history of violence should not enjoy rights they denied their victims. No 2nd or 4th amendment rights for violent criminals. Of course, violent people will always find a way to harm others.

Yeah it seems this law is to prevent a possible employer to not hire someone for a past legal transgression, or prevent a loan, etc., e.g., a misdemeanor. I understand it can help, and yet in some cases, make it worse. This is a tough call.
