"Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up." I'm sure people will say this is taken out of context... Please explain what context makes it ok for god to be the first abortionist.
You don't find it interesting that this was considered to be a just punishment (for pregnant women and infants especially) because the society they lived in was not considered "godly" enough?
You need to read the rest of the chapter. The anger is directed to a people that perform human sacrifice, and a people God helped in the desert and as soon as things begin to go well they turn against everything they have been taught. The rest of the chapter talks of the people being attacked as if by a lion or a bear robbed of her cubs.
Oh, well that explains why infants were to be slaughtered, and the unborn torn from the womb... Darn those human-sacrificing infants and foetuses!
Well human sacrifice was a line few societies were prepared to cross, and some like the Romans would exterminate any cultures they came across that practiced it
So what's the difference between a society that kills helpless humans (ie: human sacrifice) to appease their gods, and a society that kills helpless humans because their god told them to? Sounds an awful lot like hypocrisy... not really a "godly" trait.
God is not telling anyone to do anything - In the passage God is talking about what he is going to do
Oh, thanks for clarifying.... So you're saying it was God who tore foetuses from their mothers' wombs and killed infants because he lost his temper?
So, god wants people to kill children for him because they were killing people for another god....So, the problem here isn't human sacrifice, but which god you're sacrificing those people to. lol, that's really messed up and ridiculous. "Those people aren't killing people for me! Go kill them for me!" Oh, so god is going to do it himself, so it's no longer psychopathic? Do you want me to quote the verses were god commands his people to slaughter men, women, and children, or are you going to stop playing dumb?
Tell you what, if you are going to post Biblical passages perhaps you should, oh I don't know, learn something about them first.
I'm learning plenty about them (and those who choose to get defensive about them) just by posting them, thanks anyway.
Nah, Google can't tell you about how people react to religion - or how some biblical verses get interpreted in the real world. Exchanging ideas with people is way more fun than pure research.
So, you know they exist, but you make it sound as if the Christian god didn't command people to murder women and children. I spent years learning about the Bible. I still find it disturbing. What exactly do we need to learn about these verses that would make them seem less disgusting?
