House ethics probe into Rep. Matt Gaetz picks up steam with new witnesses contacted: Sources

Oh, is it finally coming to a head?

Florida's alleged child sex trafficker in congress, Matt Gaetz, has long been the subject of an ethics investigation on several front, including taking a child across state lines in order for him and his friends to have sex with her and some lobbying questions.

While he seems to have been excused on some front from GOP and MAGA criticisms for these rather horrific accusations, there has long been an ethics probe, and it appears to be ramping up.

While he is often busy campaigning for Trump, I find it a bit less than moral that the Trump campaign would use as their agent a person accused of such terrible things.

The reopened House ethics probe into Rep. Matt Gaetz continues to ramp up, as the committee in recent weeks has contacted multiple new witnesses as part of its ongoing investigation into the Florida congressman, sources tell ABC News.

In recent days, the Republican-led House Ethics Committee has reached out to multiple new witnesses, expanding its contact with individuals who have ties to the initial Justice Department investigation into Gaetz, said sources, who told ABC News that committee investigators have begun conducting interviews.

Sources say in recent days, in addition to focusing on possible lobbying violations by Gaetz, the Ethics Committee has reached out to witnesses who were questioned as part of the Justice Department's sex trafficking investigation into the Florida congressman.

The House probe into Gaetz's conduct was reopened last July after the Ethics Committee initially deferred its investigation at the request of the Justice Department, which conducted its own years-long probe that concluded without charging Gaetz in 2023.

Responding to the new developments, Gaetz told ABC News in a statement, "It's great to see the Ethics Committee has interests beyond trading stocks. They seem to be quite the unusual whales."

 

He'll probably get away with a slap on the wrist like Menendez and Trump.

 

I'm sure Gaetz had no idea what Joel Greenberg was up to and was as shocked as everyone else when Greenberg went away for 11 years for sex trafficking.

 

Does anyone truly doubt Mattie Buoy Gaetz and Venmo have a trail to follow?

 

The Matt seems like a pretty unpleasant person all around.

Gaetz wasn't criminally charged along with Greenberg so what's the purpose of the Ethics Committee investigating after the fact?

"Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz on Thursday was served a subpoena to sit for a deposition in a civil lawsuit that involves allegations he had sex with a 17-year old-girl, sources tell ABC News, as part of a suit brought by a friend of the congressman against the young woman and others.

Gaetz was issued the subpoena, which has not been previously reported, by attorneys representing the woman who is now in her 20s and was at the center of a years-long investigation by the Justice Department into allegations that the Florida congressman had sex with her when she was a minor, sources said.

The congressman's deposition is slated for April 5, according to sources, and is part of a sprawling defamation and racketeering lawsuit brought by Gaetz's longtime friend, former Florida House member and lobbyist Chris Dorworth, against the woman and others.

The deposition could see Gaetz asked under oath about his alleged sexual activity with the woman when she was a minor.'

Good grief so 6 years of investigating this guy. First it was he was a part of a sex ring now we're down to he had sex with a minor because some lefty in the DOJ says so. RIGHT seems believable.
