Link: House lawmakers advance $3 million grant program to help schools buy guns for teachers

Iowa House lawmakers are pushing through a bill that would provide $3 million to pay for training for school districts that choose to arm staff members and could be used to buy guns for school employees.

The legislation, House Study Bill 692, is part of a larger bill with other school safety requirements. It is meant to complement a separate measure House lawmakers passed last week that would allow teachers and other school staff to obtain a professional permit to carry guns on school grounds, and provide them with legal immunity for the use of reasonable force.

Both bills are part of Republicans' legislative response to a deadly shooting at Perry High School in January...

Iowa is arguably the reddest state in the nation right now. There's no doubt Gov Reynolds will sign it as soon as it lands on her desk.

I'm fine with arming teachers as long as it's a choice for each teacher(as well as vetting of each teacher who wants to do it), and is accompanied by strict training, both at the start and recurring annually. Obviously strict safety standards for storage of the weapon as well.

All of the programs I am aware of are strictly voluntary. My daughter is among the armed teachers/staff at her school. All who volunteered agreed to criminal background checks, and two psych evals - one by a shrink who consults for the Sheriff's Dept, and another who has no connection to law enforcement. Then they underwent intensive training, portions of which are more rigorous than even the Sheriff's deputies are put through; partly because it's specific to the layout of the school. One of my daughter's colleagues washed out - not because he didn't make the cut, but because the live fire drills persuaded him he wasn't cut out for it.

What makes you think a wokester would volunteer for that duty? I can assure you my daughter doesn't have a single woke molecule.
