"The story of a “coyote” sneaking undocumented immigrants across the border into the US is nothing new. For decades, people hoping to escape poverty in their home countries have paid to be smuggled into the interior of the US in hopes of new economic opportunities that could turn their lives and the lives of their families around. However, in the last nine months, a new kind of story has emerged. That of children streaming across the border without adults relying on rumors that they will be granted “permisos” once they surrender themselves to border control and will be able to legally stay. This idea has lead to an influx of almost 44,000 undocumented children streaming across the southern border from Central America since October, overwhelming holding centers and leaving politicians scrambling to find someone to blame."

    Kind of ironic I think.
