I've always thought this way of thinking is idiotic. After you pay your taxes that money is simply NOT yours anymore. You don't own your taxes. You don't HAVE tax payer money. You pay the government. It's theirs. You can try to control how it's spent through democracy but I'm sick of peoples complaining about how THEIR tax money is being spent when clearly after you pay your taxes IT IS NOT YOURS ANYMORE. You have no direct responsibility for it. If I pay my taxes and they spend the money on something I don't agree with that is no my problem (beyond my vote). It's like if you pay someone to do some work for you and they use that money to buy drugs I cannot be blamed. If you don't like the way it's being spent try to change it. Just know it's not yours. And how it's spent doesn't reflect on you. I'm not responsible if the US starts a war while I'm paying my taxes or if they give an abortion of whatever. If we feel bad we can try to change the system.
Very good point!! It's even funnier when you realize that lots of the money we have to pay taxes with comes from Govt spending in the first place.
