Unless the person who is in legitimate need of a firearm, had need of it immediately to defend either themselves, or their family, and not several months after the red tape has been initiated. Not everyone has the luxury of waiting, or relying on the police to respond to a threat made against their lives. The city of Detroit has recognized this fact, as the chief of police has told residents to obtain firearms and learn how to use them, as they cannot be there when they are needed due to budgetary and manpower restraints.

Mass shootings are classified as any incident where four or more people are killed. Incidents such as Newtown are quite rare as far as mass shootings go, and are only known about because they are easier to sensationalize. The mass shootings in locations such as the states of California and New York, and the city of Chicago where firearm regulations are quite strict, do not grab the headlines.

The majority of which are cause by individuals who are legally prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm, and have already proven that they are unfit to remain at large in society.

Should not other nations be embarrassed whenever it is pointed out that they have higher rates of muggings, home invasions, and rapes when compared to the united states?

Recognizing that a problem is beyond the scope of being addressed or fixed is not complacency. It is acceptance of the fact that not everything can be solved.

Show that what you claim to be a problem, actually is a problem.

And how do you propose the united states, as a nation, stops undesirables from obtaining firearms through theft from family members, or older members of society who are not as mentally sharp as others? How would you propose stopping someone who is in the business of drug dealing, from selling firearms that have obliterated serial numbers, and cannot be tracked? What is your solution for updating the national instant check system, when the government has allocated next to zero funding and manpower for that purpose?

In simple, uncomplicated, easy to understand terms, how exactly do you propose addressing the human aspect of the system that is in place, and effectively removing its corrupt and incompetent aspects from the equation entirely, so that accidents do not continue to happen?

Explain what rights listed in the united states bill of rights qualify as anachronistic, and why you believe they are such.

The best way to prevent a shooting from becoming a mass shooting is to shoot back. That's why mass shootings always happen in gun free zones.
You will never see a mass shooting at a gun show, turkey shoot or sports men's club.

No post has been made where you were asked to take such odds. And seeing as you are not living in the united states, you supposedly do not face such odds.

The rate of violent deaths today is about where it was before the gun grab..as the country was reacting to a one off, pretending a gun grab fixed a non existent problem is easy....

Well their criminals certainly don't as they have no problem getting enough arms to ply their trades.

You're asking why not being allowed to own a gun if you want one is an example of having less freedom?

I highly doubt you're the spokesperson for all "Aussies and Brits".

Like they do in Switzerland? I don't think that's necessary. Most US households have at least one gun, so the minority of phobic gun grabbers can practice what they preach without making much of a difference. Their problem is that they want to impose their will on the majority.

Since when do people who live outside of the United States need have no fear of what Americans might do to them?

Actually this last shooting on Umpqua Community College in Oregon was NOT a "gun free zone", Oregon state law allows anyone with a permit to carry a concealed weapon, even on collage grounds. So where was the good guy with the gun to save them? You can't use the "gun free zone" excuse this time.

Gun shows actually don't allow you to load any of the guns in the event, so that is actually a form of regulation the rest of the country doesn't have. The NRA actually prohibits guns from their main buildings of operation, so they are total hypocrites, just like their supporters. As for the "turkey shoots" and men's clubs, they have enough accedents to make up for the mass shooting. LOL!

Mainly what has reduced the murder rate is three strikes laws and shall issue concealed carry permits, nothing else has changed other than that. during that time period. And neither of those suggestions would have stopped any of the last three shootings.

No one is referring to state law. We are referring to the college's policy for students, employees, subcontractors and essentially anyone that sets foot on the campus.

Put it this way, you'll never ever hear of a mass shooting at my house.

10,000 murders 300,000,000 million people 3.3 per 100k sorry in this population you aren't getting any lower no matter what you do. Improving mental health treatment might reduce the number of suicides but it isn't going to have much impact on mass shootings at all. The very things that make most of these guys mass shooters pretty much precludes them voluntarily seeking mental health care.

    What are you "sorry" for?

All I'm suggesting is what's always been true:

Human beings CAN and typically do mitigate and resolve problems. If you're going to tell me we shouldn't or cannot... then I'm not listening to you, because you aren't being realistic.

It is true. US gun related incidents would be right in line with any other country were it not for the 13% of our population committing more than half our violence.

Europe is about to discover it for themselves though.

Wrong. Campus policy prohibited firearms DESPITE state law.

    http://www.vocativ.com/news/236421/the-complications-of-oregons-guns-on-campus-laws/

    Wrong again.

The guns for sale on the gun show floor have their firing pins removed. Why? To responsibly prevent the 50 or so people that might handle that weapon from loading and using it.

They also must comply with whatever state, federal, and personal property laws of the city they are in. Those laws may prevent concealed carry (such as Kalifornia), or the state/personal property does not allow open/concealed carry.

I'm sure it makes you happy that events from 200 years ago that none of us were around for harm us today.

Congratulations on the warm fuzzy feeling you get every time someone dies because of it.

Since most of the violence they commit is against themselves, is that also karma?

There's nothing you have to teach me about "diversity" that I don't know. I served in the military over 20 years ago and it was as representative a cross section of our society as is possible. I've lived in over 10 countries spread all over the globe.

If all our problems are due to race, then why are these minorities mostly killing each other? Why are the countries they come from so violent as of 2015?

You can throw your "you deserve it" out there all day, it just makes you sound ignorant to the real problems.

so why do YOU think there is soo much crime in the black community?

you chalk it all up to genetics?

It's not just black people, and primarily I think it's a function of the drug trade.

It's a function of having no family values and growing up in single parent homes.

I don't know if genetics play a part, but you have to wonder why places like Mexico and pretty much every single African country are violent, corrupt hell holes.
