I know there are a billion other threads about the government shutdown, but I thought of another thing to discuss, so here's another point of view.

How exactly are the Democrats supposed to push their agenda if every time the legislation they favor gets pushed off for another day??? They can't.

So rather than play the Republican tactic of putting it off for another day (until after it expires), the democrats said no we're not putting it off another week, and another week, and so on. The line must be drawn here, the issues must be solved today, not play the Republican game of delays until it's too late.

Personally, I have the feeling that Republicans want to get rid of CHIP, and Democrats secretly want to get rid of DACA, but they both have to save face while doing it.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it appears that the minority Democrats are demanding they get the legislation they want, rather than negotiating for something in their favor. A perfect example is the recent tax legislation that screwed Blue States with the SALT deduction limit of $10,000. If the Democrats had come to the bargaining table, they might have gotten the SALT limit increased - but they decided instead to use scorched earth tactics just as they are doing with the budget extension. Does anyone think DACA will now happen?

Well, no I don't think DACA will happen now, and I think the Democrats secretly wanted to kill it.

But if that's the case the government is going to be shutdown for a whole month or longer. Until the dreamers are deported.

But big question, does ICE function in the event of a government shutdown? Because the Democrats might figure they can't deport Dreamers while the government is shut down, if so then if they can't get a DACA deal, then they might keep the government shut down until after the 2018 election.

By the way here is a source that talks about ICE in the case of a government shutdown in 2013.
