I am looking forward to a rational debate over how I would fix the immigration problems, everyone is entitled to their own opinions and ideas, so let's keep this civil but open to debate.

For as long as I remember, hell even before I was born, there has been a problem with immigration and lack of reform. Several states are doing what the United States government can not do, and without much success. The key problem is not people who are crossing illegally, it is that the immigrants have opportunities set by shady business owners who want to expand profit margins and lazy Americans who do not want to do manual labor. Regardless of employers not being able to find legal workers, offering below minimum wage to immigrants is not right. I was thinking to myself, how would I fix the problem if I had the chance? I thought of a two pronged approach to fix immigration problems.

    First Step: Punish the Employers

Instead of punishing the immigrants who are just trying to better themselves, punish the employers who exploit workers. These under the table, under minimum wage jobs help no one but the businesses. Create a law so that when a business owner knowingly employs illegal immigrants, the IRS charges them with tax evasion and law enforcement files charges for aiding and abetting a fugitive. Of course, illegal immigrants would have to be classified as fugitives in order for the second part to work.

People may say, well how can an employer know if the person they hired is an illegal or not? Again, that's an easy fix, it's called an I-9 form, and almost every American Citizen at one point in time who held a legitimate job has filled an I-9 out.

Now you may ask, "Well if I use a housekeeping, landscaping service and so on that employs illegal immigrants, will I be affected?" Under this program, third party employers such as people who go through an agency will not. The service who employs will be charges with tax evasion and aiding and abetting a fugitive.

    Second Step: Offering Citizenship

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) cannot run checks on every single business to see if they are hiring illegals, that would be impossible.

So instead, illegal immigrants who report their employers for hiring them and other immigrants to ICE will be given citizenship on the spot after background checks and other requirements are met.

Current & future illegal immigrants can go into an immigration office and file for citizenship. After background checks and so on, the immigrant will be given an 18 month work visa to stay in the country and assigned a case worker that will do a minimum of weekly check-ins to see if the immigrant is keeping out of trouble, holding a job, and not being a burden to society. After the 18 month probation period, if the immigrant has performed to the standards required by ICE, they will receive permanent citizenship. Those who choose not to go to an immigration office will be classified as a fugitive. If you're an honest hardworking immigrant who just wants the American Dream, you would have no problem walking into an immigration office and getting a full background check and other tests.

    Few Random Footnotes:

By holding these standards, employers would not be able to choose immigrants because they can be exploited, instead they would be held to the same standards as every citizen and the jobs would go to the most qualified individual, and not the cheapest. Immigrants then would be allowed to file for Equal Pay to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) to prevent pay discrimination.

What will happen to the immigrants who do not go to an immigration office? Prison, creating and fixing infrastructure to pay for their incarceration.

ICE can set up offices along the border for work visas and checks for new immigrants.

Costs for caseworkers and implementing these standards would easily be paid for by the revenue created from the immigrants that will be paying taxes now.

Immigrants that defect from their case worker will have their visa revoked, will never be allowed to apply again and be considered a fugitive.

This is a very rough and crude idea, a lot of clarity and exact details would still need to be worked out.

What? Local police and authorities don't have to enforce Federal laws this is awesome next time some FBI agent murderer or big drug kingpin is there don't assist in any way since its a Federal charge and crime. Seriously don't interfere but don't lift a finger to help is told to.

What part of being ILLEGAL am I not getting if they as elected officials and officers of the government they are sworn to uphold the laws of the government and they do and then they get into trouble.

    My Plan:

Boot out illegals here already and slam the door shut.

Have a proper guest worker program with strong safeguards against misuse I suggest a removeable implanted chip tagging them while here and a central database.

Offer citizenship to anyone that serves this nation during time of war after two tours or being wounded in active combat duty on any honorable discharge.

Tighten up rules let in educated and well off people over uneducated and poor in easier, with some mercy for those in dire threat of life or seeking freedom.

Drop the embargo with Cuba and the dry foot policy, period.

Good ideas. I proposed something similar some time back:

That's all BS the only way to treat Illegals is to treat them exactly as Mexico treats Illegals and have the same Immigration policy as Mexico's. If your not familier with it I would suggest you look it up, NO MORE NO LESS.
