We all know that socialist think that huge over powering government is "entitled" to take as much of my money, and everyone else's to do with as they feel like. Some socialist think that the gov should take up to 90% of what I earn!!!!

A companion question is why to socialist and left wingers think that gov b'crats know better where to spend my money than I do?

Far less than they should, since I have paid into SS for 61 years, and Medicare since it was put in place.

Remember democrats at the behest of Johnson stole money from the SS trust fund.

Many of them appear to be under the illusion that they only want to take more money from "the rich".

For some reason, this is rarely how it ends up working out in actual practice.

This is not just an economic belief, it's an entire political philosophy, that all problems can be solved by government telling people what to do and micromanaging their lives.
It's why the Soviet Union ended up being much more totalitarian than any dictatorship.

As C. S. Lewis once quipped:
"It may be better to live under robber barons than under the omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber barons cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."

There's a role for government, but at some point a line needs to be drawn in the sand, and many Progressives don't feel comfortable telling us where they're willing to draw that line in the sand. Or if they do, that line gradually keeps getting moved over time.

Forget about taxes for a moment, think about the indirect financial burdens of all those laws.

As much as it takes to pay for welfare, cash for clunkers, the Mexican wall and the $23 trillion national debt.

I am semi retired. I do not get social security or medicaid. I never will. Why do you get money that is still taken out of my paycheck when I work to help pay you?

No one has stolen money from the trust fund:

So do capitalists. Only true anarchists are entirely opposed to government and taxation.

I doubt it. Are you confusing a 90% top rate and taxing 90% of everything? It's a common error.

Than you personally? Maybe they read your posts here.

In general terms, the bureaucrats are guided by democratically elected representatives who should be following the will and needs of the people. It isn't a perfect system but it's the best one we've got (and again, only opposed by anarchists and dictators).

I don't know what percentage they can take from you. But what we need to do is look back in history to when this country became a super-power. We will see that that happened when we had the strongest middle class. Whatever tax rate was working at that time, that's where we need to be. So it looks like I'm more a "conservative" than you are.

As for your question, I couldn't care less if you or a bureaucrat knows better where you spend your money. I'm only interested in my country doing better for the majority of the people. If that means that somebody who makes a billion after tax dollars a year will have to "struggle" trying to make it with just half a billion... I would not be concerned.

Bear in mind if you are a working stiff less than half of your compensation ever finds it's way into your pocket.

That’s largely dependent on your income.
You should only be taxed at 90% for every dollar after 1000 times minimum wage (around 15MM)

I hardly believe you qualify to be taxed at this rate.

Who will be in charge of all this money? Does the government do a good job with the pile of money they get now? Bernie Sanders never had a job in his life, yet he is wealthy. Will the government officials be taxed the same?

Can you name any program the government has that is solvent?

Various departments: Healthcare, education, infrastructure, R&D, scientific grants... I can name more if you so require
In some areas, they certainly do better with it than a billionaire hoarding cash in an overseas account.

Sanders is worth $2.5MM so he would not be taxed at 90% either. Being an author is a job for many people. So your first statement is false. He also invests in real estate, another job...

As for you last statement, everyone should be taxed by the same formula

Since they are all paying their bills — all of them.
You should look up what financial solvency is...

Why not just have a government where every citizen gets the choice of what government programs they want to support?

Nothing in the government is solvent. Debt is now 22.6 trillion dollars. Pretending SS and Medicare are the problem is laughable.

We just need a few more tax cuts for the wealthy and pouring more funds into the military and we will be fine!

if we are the wealthy. The joke is that Trump supporters who are not the wealthy support charity for the rich and reduced benefits for everyone else.

I think everyone should pay 33% of what they make after a deduction for the federal poverty level for thier family size. I think the government should provide basic health insurance and a retirement income of the federal poverty level. This amount raises 100% of the 2019 budget and provides the same 2 trill that people now pay for health insurance through thier employer.

Business's job is to provide employment, and money for thier investors not to provide social programs for thier employees. Removing medical and SS and medicare costs from business will allow them to concentrate on making products. Entrepreneurs will be freed from having to pay heath benefits and payroll expenses. They will more likely strike off on thier own as they no longer have to worry about healthcare and it will be easier to attract employees if they know thier healthcare needs are met. Corporate taxes should be reduced to 10% as this will now make the US the cheapest tax haven in the world.

And the people on the left don't think they or elected bureaucrats now what to do with your money better than you do. That is a credulous argument to why people on the left want everyone to have a certain std of living and for that std of living to be achieved those who have most benefited from this society shuld pay more to the cost of achieving the society that those on the left perceived to me a better society.
