According to Robert Rector from the Heritage Foundation the 30 million who are considered to be living in poverty typically have more living space than the average European. Most even have cell phones and cable. Check out http://www.heritage.org/research/reports/2011/07/what-is-poverty for a full list from refrigerator to jacuzzi. What do you think?
I think its plainly politically driven class warfare. The two parties are split between representing the upper 50% while the other half represents the lower 50%. It creates an "Us vs. them" mentality. Its all pointless, and only caters to americans who view politics like they do American Idol.
america is bigger than any european country deal with it. In my country is hard to find people who dont live in flats.

So you are suggesting they have kick ass lives and live in nice areas? So it is the poor who are doing well, and the rich are hurting with their incredible 15% tax rate?
Out of context much? As scholar James Q. Wilson has stated, The poorest Americans today live a better life than all but the richest persons a hundred years ago.[3] In 2005, the typical household defined as poor by the government had a car and air conditioning. For entertainment, the household had two color televisions, cable or satellite TV, a DVD player, and a VCR. If there were children, especially boys, in the home, the family had a game system, such as an Xbox or a PlayStation.[4] In the kitchen, the household had a refrigerator, an oven and stove, and a microwave. Other household conveniences included a clothes washer, clothes dryer, ceiling fans, a cordless phone, and a coffee maker.
Hardly. " In the kitchen, the household had a refrigerator, an oven and stove, and a microwave. Other household conveniences included..." According to the Heritage Foundation and the rest of you Rightists, stoves and refrigerators are "conveniences".
you can buy most of that (*)(*)(*)(*) in a pawn shop for a third of the original cost and a lot of those things are important... your (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)ing about people having a ten dollar coffee maker? Really? VCR`s?!?! LAAAAWL!!! Color tv`s!!! HOLY (*)(*)(*)(*)! Are poor people supposed to have black and whites from the 60`s? Its not like thheir using plasma`s screens. You can pick up a decent thick glass tv from a used goods store for under 50$ these days. Xboxes and Play station ones? Same boat as the tv`s, both are from the 90`s and you can buy them for a pittance. Cordless phones? You men Cell phones? Something everyone has, even lots of people in third world countries? Why would anyone (*)(*)(*)(*)(*) at people for having a ceiling fan or an oven or a refrigerator? you guys are a joke. These "conveniences" are actually important, of course you republicans probably think poor people don`t eed them because poor people all live at hotels in Vegas and eat out for every meal...
...since Obama's Brother---George Obama---has been living in a hut and (*)(*)(*)(*)*ing in a bucket. My Brother's Keeper Im betting he would view refridgerators, stoves, and indoor plumbing as a luxury. The poorest Americans still reside in the top 2% of the world population...... . . .
In 1913, refrigerators for home and domestic use were invented by Fred W. Wolf of Fort Wayne, Indiana with models consisting of a unit that was mounted on top of an ice box.[13] A self-contained refrigerator, with a compressor on the bottom of the cabinet was invented by Alfred Mellowes in 1916. Mellowes produced this refrigerator commercially but was bought out by William C. Durant in 1918, who started the Frigidaire Company in order to begin the first mass-production of refrigerators.[14] The absorption refrigerator was invented by Baltzar von Platen and Carl Munters from Sweden in 1922, while they were still students at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. It became a worldwide success and was commercialized by Electrolux. Other pioneers included Charles Tellier, David Boyle, and Raoul Pictet. Carl von Linde was the first to patent and make a practical and compact refrigerator.
You need to understand the concepts and principles of paragraphs. They were still talking about the idea that modern poor people live better than those people, with more conveniences, just a mere 100 years ago. You can't just ignore the entire first part of the paragraph as if it doesn't exist so that you can mis-represent what was said to attempt to invalidate the oppositions arguments. Why don't you actually try and take your own position, rather than just attempting to discredit everybody elses through strawman attacks?
Another one that is completely unable to comprehend what was written. Maybe if enough of you people apply a strawman argument to what was said, then we can just completely mis-represent the facts and you can feel like you "won".
And at the end of all of that immature rambling, YOU FINALLY take a position of your own. Oh, wait... nope never mind. It was a position turned into another strawman.
What is ironic about this thread is the "conservatives" are trying to make the poor out as wealthy. If they are wealthy then why aren't the "conservatives" trying to protect them and calling against class warfare?
The poor pay no income taxes and the middle class and rich pay for the "poors" cell phones, cable T.V., etc. __
Nice avoidance and redirect. Actually want to provide an opinion in the thread, or is it easier to sit on the outside looking in trying to invalidate everybody else? Weak.
So because people in Africa can't meet basic needs of survival, it makes those basic needs "conveniences"?
Comparing the lives of people 100 years ago to people today is a fool's errand. Also is that what we really want to do anyways? Were we happy with the poor's lives 100 years ago? I thought the purpose was to try to get better and better throughout time.
Until the repo man comes round and takes back the car and fridge, some crackhead comes and steals the Playstation and you're sat watching a black screen on your color TV with your electricity cut off due to the red letters you've been ignoring.
That is exactly it. The poor like to think that they have it so bad, but we are simply proving that their condition is getting better and better throughout time. Fact is, our "poor" live much better than a majority of the worlds population.
I think "Heritage Foundation" is nothing but a Propaganda Machine funded by million dollars of Koch brothers. Right will not rest until middle class is eliminated and poor people are crushed to death. This is the right wing Teabaggotopia.
I guess that proves it. Zero sum is false. Every category gained, which if what liberals constantly said was true, then the rich gaining that much would mean that the poor would have had to have lost. Fact is. Poor people are poor because they aren't good at taking some money and using it to make more money. It really shouldn't be any surprise that the rich gain wealth faster.
Most people think poverty is when a person can't afford even the most basic things needed to survive. A cell phone is not a basic need, nor is cable or a dvd player.
