I am curious how i would go about trying to change a law in the state of Virginia. I have already contacted the Governor and both Senators that are responsible for the county where my friend currently lives. The law i am trying to change is the current dog bite law. My friends daughter was attacked Jan 1st 2013 and had to get over 100 stitches in her face and head. While my friend does not want the dog put down the laws say that the dog gets 1 free bite. This law itself is based off a law from the UK that goes back to the 1300s when there was significantly more farm animals around as well as free roaming dogs. Which effectively means that the dog could maim and or kill a person and the owner is not liable. My friend does currently have a petition going which i am trying to get signatures for. However, since this is my first post on here i didn't think it wise to just post a link for it and say hey please sign. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas please let me know. Thanks
I believe the approach with the petition is the best route. Gather as many signatures as is possible, then fax them to your elected representatives, along with a concise explanation/sharing of your opinion. In my opinion, standard on line petitions are a no go. Gather verifiable names from your state. State official could not care less what Joe Blow in BF Egypt thinks.
