It seems that a monster is going to reach Florida soon.

Now, in Italy when extreme atmospheric phenomena happen ... we have to find a way to survive and that's all! But Italians always carry on ...

How does it work in the United States?
Overall about evacuation: do authorities force citizens to evacuate or it's just a suggestion?

It depends on the intensity of the storm. Sometimes they'll tell the citizens to stay inside, sometimes they'll tell them it would be better to leave than to stay and risk, and sometimes they'll force them to evacuate.

It could. And then the shearing winds will rip it apart, likely well before it reaches the mainland. One hopes that the storm blows itself to pieces before it damages much of the state.

We do issue mandatory evacuation orders, like there is one now in place for parts of Florida, as they expect up to 12ft storm surge in some areas.

Hillsborough County Issues Mandatory Evacuation for Zone A Ahead of Hurricane Ian
    Hurricane Ian Update No. 6

Lol..the media are salivating all over this. Global warming is the cause. I guess FL has never experienced a hurricane 100, 1000, or 10000 years ago.

Well it was predicted by these media progressives, this was going to be the worst year for hurricanes and we haven't had one. This bad boy is a monster though and I pray the people in SW florida have gotten out.

The reason why they’re calling this a Cat 4 storms I’d because they had previous Cat 4 storms to compare it to. Some Friggin people genuflect at the altar of global warming and they’re all loons in my book.

This looks like a replay of Hurricane Charley as far as the track of the hurricane and it's relative strength. That was a bad one for me, I had a tree go right through my roof.

However I have a lot fewer trees this time! I've got a big bag of snacks and plan to just ride it out.
