The Biden Administration is trying to build more green energy, but they've run into a problem. They have discovered that all the existing environmental regulations and laws that are in place are creating too much red tape and excessively slowing down the process.

The Biden Administration is thinking about granting a special exemption, so the construction of their green energy projects don't have to comply with environmental protection regulations.

I guess the regulations are too difficult, so government doesn't want to have to be forced to play by the same rules as everyone else.

Maybe, you would think, if the government discovers those rules are too burdensome they should CHANGE those rules, rather than just making a special exception to those rules for themselves?

Green energy halted by environmental regulations, there is so much irony to this.

For those not familiar with project development, any major infrastructure project that is built with federal funds must undergo a host of reviews and authorizations under federal environmental laws—a process referred to as "permitting". These laws range from the well-known (the National Environmental Policy Act, the Endangered Species Act) to the esoteric (the Geothermal Steam Act, the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act). In addition to federal permitting rules, projects are also subject to various planning requirements, including reviews at the state and local levels.

Permitting represents a barrier to deploying renewable energy ...

The government is finally realizing what a nightmare all their countless laws have created, in standing in the way of being able to get anything done.

But it looks like they're not going to learn their lesson. They're just going to ignore all the laws they've created for themselves, so they don't have to deal with the problem. Laws and regulations are for private businesses to worry about.

Plus they are saying that it's "green energy", so skipping over some bothersome environmental protection laws is worth it.
