That's it. It's official. I am now a crazy cat lady. I really do love cats more than I thought I ever would. In fact I always considered myself a dog person but now I honestly think I prefer cats to dogs. I like how they just do their own thing to be honest and I love giving them lovings and playing with them. I especially like that they are more independent than dogs. My first cat, as some of you may know from a while back, showed up on my doorstep about six months ago. She is a calico and very pretty and sweet, but also very alpha female for sure. She definitely was not happy at first about the new kitten I brought home 4 days ago but she seems to have taken a liking to him now and likes to smell him and tries to lick him. She even keeps making attempts to play with him. lol My new kitten is a little orange tabby and he looks just like this He is 13 weeks and is such a sweetheart! Very cuddly and very playful. I named him Kino (kee-no) and the calico is named Rikku (ree-koo). I got him from a foster home I found on Craigslist. The lady said that she works in a vet's office and they got him in and were planning to euthanize him because they didn't have the space for any more cats and so she ended up taking him home with her. She is fostering 9 cats (8 now) and is moving soon and needs to find homes for them. So I took him off her hands and I couldn't be more pleased. He has just the best personality and I love that I can cuddle with him. I think he will grow up to be a very mellow cat which is nice. So yup. I am definitely a crazy cat lady. Haha. Oh and here are some pics of my lovely calico who still gets lots of attentions and loving from her mom and dad! =D
I'm relatively new to being owned by a cat, as well. I always had dogs...Golden and Labrador Retrievers...and thought about getting another dog after my beloved nine year old "Berkley" (a big, beautiful Golden) succumbed to cancer about 6 years ago, but never pulled the trigger. My current living arrangements and lifestyle wouldn't be fair to a dog, but I found myself wanting a little companion, so I started thinking about another African Gray (my ex wound up with "Olympia"), but birds are obnoxiously loud at times, high maintenance, and flick seeds all over the place....I'm too old for that crap. I finally settled on getting a kitty. I found my little buddy on Craigslist, too...a ten week old, tailless male (the woman I got him from thinks the neighborhood carouser, a Manx, got to her little indoor princess somehow). He's black with white socks, a white star on his throat, and a white mustache. He's about 8 months old now, and goes by "Nubby". I've become quite attached to the little guy.
Yep it takes a dozen...UNSPADE or UNNEUTERED cats to classify you as a cat lady You have made me so jealous. I want a cat....I WANT A CAT!!! But I have a dog that would eat it and a husband fed up with animals so there ya go. Your kitty is lucky to have you!
I don't generally like cats and yet, I do. The cat that walks under your legs, jumps on your keyboard, demands attention, I don't like. The stand off. The one that will let you pet it, for a while, then bit or claw when it has had enough. The cat that says to a dog, "you want some?" The cat who says "I like you but not too much." that cat i like. - - - Updated - - - I don't generally like cats and yet, I do. Well at the moment both are unspayed and unneutered but the little miss will be losing her lady parts in a couple of weeks and the little boy will be losing his precious 'nads' in about 3-4 months once he has matured enough, that way he doesn't have any urinary issues. And I knoooowwwwws! I am sooo happy to have my two little babies. I just wuv dem sooo muuuuch! *squee!* - - - Updated - - - Haha not yet then I guess. I'm sure I'll be there someday! Or not hopefully. I've seen animal hoarding and that is just messed up! D:
Aw he sounds so adorable! And Nubby is such a cute name. If you have any pictures of him I'd love to see them. =)
Well Rikku is a combo of all of this. She hates dogs and she lets them know it by swatting them right in the face (she has nail caps though so no harm done). She also demands your attention by meowing and crawling all over what you are doing sometimes, although she generally just likes to sleep in her basket (used to be our bread basket but she claimed it for herself when she moved in. lol ). She will bite and claw when she's done with your attention most definitely. She's like, "Gimme your attention NOW!" *pet pet* *bites!* "Ok I am done, stop touching me now." Kino on the other hand really demands your attention by obsessively crawling all over you and whatever you are doing and let's you pet him forever if you want to. He gets scared when new people come around and hides but comes out eventually to investigate. I am not sure how he feels about dogs just yet.
I wasn't much of a cat person either until we rescued a kitten that had been either tossed or separated from it's mom. She's our baby and spoiled to death.
Oh he is so handsome. I love his front paws and how it looks like he's wearing fingerless gloves! lol
I never cared much for cats when I was younger, until one day my wife (at the time) brought home a stray kitten who'd somehow snuck into the theatre where she worked and was hiding out in the dressing room. I was sitting on the couch reading a book when she brought it home, and the poor, scared little thing ran straight to me fro protection in this strange new house. I fell in love with her even faster than she'd fallen for me, and we were inseparable for the rest of her life. I'll never be a dog person again. I love cats. They make you earn it every day. A dog will love you just because you know how to operate a can opener, but a cat holds you accountable every single minute. I respect that, and appreciate the challenge.
Thanks for adopting kitties. Over the years we have adopted several -- mostly strays that showed up on the patio. Isn't it strange how stray cats can sense which families in the neighborhood like cats? Our house is like a magnet. We have three cats now.
She is. But in this particular photo, she's in spaz mode. I think she'd just gotten swatted for trying to drink her human mom's ice tea (yep, a cat that loves tea), and she was preparing for a second attack on the glass of tea. Even if there's just an inch of liquid in the bottom of a glass, she'll stick her whole head clear to the bottom of the glass in an attempt to have some of what the humans are having. It's hilarious.
Rikku loves yogurt and will eat just about any kind of people food you put in front of her. Kino on the other hand will sniff it, lick it and make a face like, "Ew! That's not cat food!" lol
I like boiled peanuts. So does Nubby....as soon as I sit down with a bowl full, he hops on the coffee table and helps himself. He also likes to "share" a bowl of cereal with me....he "talks" to me when it's his turn for a taste. I've spoiled him rotten lol.
Congrats to the new cat! I have three, in sizes S, XL, and XXXL, all former strays. In fact, excuse me... *hugs Maya* ...sorry, just needed to do that.
Aww, I just wanna snuggle your orange kitty. I really love orange kitties for some reason. =3 If there is a fire I'll have to save Kino because he'll be hiding, Rikku will gladly run out the door on her own. lol!
