I just heard today that a relative of mine is sick with covid, again. I thought he already got sick, and recovered, and wouldn't get it again. But he's reinfected. There goes the argument for natural immunity out the window.

 

If he had the original Covid like I did, this time should be substantially lighter. My second time I thought my springtime allergies came early.

Unless you can prove he had the same strain both times your argument flies right out the window.

And you forgot to tell us if he was vaccinated or not

 

The CDC has recently removed the word "immunity" from is definition of vaccination, presumably because in the world of illness, there is no such thing. Any human, regardless of vaccination or general health, can be infected by any disease if the viral load is substantial enough. Like, no matter who it is, injecting a gallon of pure covid into anyone will give them covid regardless of any other factors.

In the same way that enough viral load will negate any benefits of vaccination (which ultimately is supposed to create a 'natural immunity', is it not?), enough viral load will also negate how effective one's white blood cells are at identifying and destroying a previously encountered virus.

Maybe your relative's white blood cells overtaxed themselves fighting off some other common ailment, and then they were exposed to covid before their immune system could call in for reinforcements. Maybe your relative simply hadn't eaten an adequate enough amount of protein for a few days before being exposed. Maybe your relative took a medication that temporarily weakenned their immune system as a side effect at a very unlucky time when they met someone with an asymptomatic infection. Or maybe your relative just ate an entire covid booger hidden in their soy latte frappuchino by a disgruntled baristo and their well-prepared immune system was still overwhelmed simply by sheer numbers. All of these could cause an infection regardless of previous infection AND regardless of vaccination. The only 'argument' that is out the window is that 100% immunity to anything has ever existed. But that went out the window a long time ago, it just seems that most people never understood it.

 

Now I flush my sinuses with a electric nasal irrigator, usually after I get home from going someplace. Feels real weird at first, once I got used to it it's ok for me.
