Okay, this is getting really bad now, so I'm going to request some official assistance. I'm having a REALLY difficult time figuring out how to manage certain aspects of the social groups I run under the board's new structure. I now have fully 8 Notifications connected to that and, after hours and hours of trying to figure out things that are probably extremely simple and obvious to everyone else, I simply cannot figure out how to address them. In that connection, I have two questions:

    1) Above all else, how do I confirm Join Requests? *

    2) Secondarily, how do I get rid of Notifications telling me of Unapproved Group Messages? Here's the back-story on that one: some time ago, I made a new thread in the Occupy Movement social group, and lost my Internet connection just as I was attempting to post it. In my frustration, I pressed the Post button a number of times. To my surprise, they all posted, so I wound up with a lot of copies of the same thread. I deleted the surplus, but all of them still appear on my screen within the social group anyway, even though they're registered as deleted. And I have 7 Notifications corresponding to the surplus threads. I want to get rid of the surplus threads so they no longer appear on my screen period, as if they never existed. And I also want to get rid of the god(*)(*)(*)(*) Notifications corresponding to that. *

    * I am TERRIBLE with computers or indeed anything technical. Accordingly, please give me instructions in baby steps, not in big leaps. For example, if you were telling me how to edit a Word document (which obviously I know how to do), telling to me to just "open Word" as the first step would be a big leap. If that were my request, I would want to know HOW to "open Word". You know, "click on Start in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen, then find Microsoft Office on your Programs menu, then click on Microsoft Word, then click on File in the top left-hand corner of the screen, then click on Open on the drop-down menu that appears"...THOSE sorts of instructions. I'm sorry for being so annoying with this. The resolve to these questions is probably extremely simple. I've tried so hard to avoid bothering anyone here with them, but I really have to know how to confirm Join Requests, since one of my groups has one pending. Please have pity on me!

Start > Turn off computer > Turn off.

Stand up > Walk to kitchen > Make nice espresso.

Walk outside > Sit on balcony/ patio/ stoop > Enjoy morning sounds > Relax for half hour.

...it'll still be there when you return. And hopefully someone (unlike me, sorry), will have left something more informative for the technical aspect.

    *smile* Good Sunday!

I had a notification that "40 group message were waiting for approval" for quite a while. I looked through group posts but couldn't find any. I did some research but didn't find anything conclusive other than to contact the site admin and have them clear the flags. I just gave up. A couple of weeks ago the notifications disappeared. I don't think it was anything that I did on my end so I can't walk you through it.

I also noticed that we cannot create more than three threads or discussion topics in a group and the fourth thread has become a dead link without content in my case and social groups may be glitchy and not fully functionable in the first place and we can only 'soft delete' threads in a group setting whatever it means.

Okay, I still need help with confirming Group Join Requests. I now have two of them pending and still can't figure out how to confirm them under this perplexing new system. Can someone please at least try to help me? What steps do I need to take?

Actually, on the Group Join Requests, nevermind! I FINALLY figured out how to admit new members! Congratulate me everyone because for someone like me (tech-ignorant), that's a huge accomplishment. :p

Anyhow, I do still need help with getting rid of the Unapproved Group Messages, i.e. removing them from the screen, as described in the OP, in case anyone has figured anything out on that since this discussion was started.

Moderator Shangrila will help, she is the best mod for addressing member issues quickly. As for your issues with word. I have windows XP which may be different from your machine, I have not used VISTA etc but the word process document top menu is different in VISTA. I understand the new operating systems use with instead of text for; 'file' ,'edit', 'view', 'favorites', etc,. If you have an old XP operating system or even older system and want to use the word processor go to start then to all programs (if Microsoft works isn’t on the main start menu, then after you go to 'all programs' click on Microsoft works, then click on 'new document'. That should give you a blank word processor document. I also use notepad to copy and quick edit but it doesn’t have tools like spell check etc on it.

    Hope that helps...

ps I don't like the newer OP systems and will install XP on my new computers, well home computers. The work computers will use what ever system the user (my volunteer help/partners) wants.

As stated in the OP, I was just using Word as an illustrative example of how to break down steps for me. I know how to use Word. :p

I thank you for your willingness though. :)

As you can tell by the subsequent posts, I've gotten some of these issues resolved already at this point, but still need help on getting rid of the Unapproved Group Messages.

Can you link a staff member with whatever you wish to delete? Perhaps it has timed out for you and only staff can delete it? Not sure though, never had this come up before.

The best I can do is this link, and I'm not sure it'll even work for anyone else. That's the page that comes up when I click on the Notifications concerning the Unapproved Group Messages (which is what I'd like deleted). If the link works, I think you'll find that it's really not possible to delete them there. If it doesn't work, the Unapproved messages in question are accidental duplications of a thread I posted in the Occupy Movement social group, so that's where you can find them. They're on soft delete now and I have no idea of how to permanently get rid of them so they no longer appear on the screen. That's really the root issue that remains.

You would have to send me the link to the individual posts ( or title and date) so I don't get them confused.
    I found the page ( I hope)
    http://www.politicalforum.com/groups/occupy-movement/new-occupy-publications-161.html
Most of what we delete here is a soft delete, so that it can be referenced if need be.

Yes that's it. Obviously I'd like to keep the post itself there. There were several accidental duplications of it though that I deleted and appear there on soft delete. I'd like to just get rid of them (the several accidental duplications on soft delete) so that the Notifications concerning them will go away.

All of the said duplications are entitled "The 99% Spring" and were posted at quote "05-09-2012 06:50 AM".

I brought it up for staff discussion. Perhaps we can find a solution.
