    I predict! [IMG]

With the quarantine we will see a rise in:

    1 -Birthrate.
    2 -Domestic violence.
    3 -Murders.
    4 -Divorces.
    5 -Child abuse.
6 -Mental health problems in mothers.

    I CAN'T STAND IT. I CAN'T STAND IT.

    Well obviously BIRTHRATE.

That has been Expected, and Discussed, for weeks (at this point).

Just like the phenomenon of "Blizzard Babies", Etc.

As to the Rest of your list?

2 and 6 seem most likely.

I was thinking of murder due to domestic violence. Someone told my granddaughter that he refused to close shop because he can't stand being with his wife.

I wonder if the Europeans and Asians who are accustomed to smaller living spaces, and taught from a young age to be considerate towards others in the household, would fare better than Americans in this kind of situation.

But then again who knows, especially if they are from Mediterranean countries where living outdoors and socializing is part of their life style.

Yes, this is very true of southern European countries. I don't know if it is the sun or not that has had some influence in the matter.

But, I have noticed that people living in northern Europe are far more aloof than those in southern Europe.

At the same time, however, those countries of the north are more affluent than those of the south. They work harder and their per-capita GDPs are larger.

Perhaps the Roman mentality took root in the south - the furthest north that Rome ever got was Britain. And it is no wonder to me why many, many Brits retire in the southern sunshine. The European "southerners" are also a more accommodating people ...

    CAUTIONARY NOTE

From the Guardian here: I'm an NHS junior doctor: here's why I'm asking you to stay at home - excerpt:
France may have a unique solution to the problem of "walkabouts". That is, people who think it is their individual right to get out of the house because they are feeling "cramped".

Last week, we were told that if we wanted absolutely to leave the house, we needed to download, fill-out and sign a document indicating our identity and address and select any of 5/6 good reasons for leaving the house. The police have the right to stop people and ask if they have that document. Many have been caught outside their homes without the document - the fine is 138€!

The French government has obviously decided that if the virus is to be ended, people must stop passing it around. Because, indeed, we, the sheeple, are its principle vehicle. The virus can live deposed outside the human being only for an hour or two. So, also, be careful of what you touch.

For all the talk about having millions of masks available, only a small minority are wearing them. The French government has claimed on TV that it expects the number of deaths will continue to increase for another two weeks at least before cresting.

    From the "worldmeter" website here:
According to the WikiMedia article here: Timeline of the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic in November 2019 – January 2020 - the first deaths were in China began in end-December.

Given that there is no antidote, it seems that if it took China 14 weeks to get "no further deaths" (as of two days ago). It may take just as long for the infection to remain in the US and Europe. From a web-wiki here:
Cautionary Note: The above is pure speculation on my part given the dates reported on the Web. Perhaps that period can be reduced given the measures taken. In France, the government has asked for people to stay-home - with only some individuals free to work due to necessity. (For instance, supermarkets and pharmacies are open 7/7) ...

It's not that the Northern Europeans work more, but that they are community minded - and especially the Germanic people. While in the South they usually work more hours, but are more individualist and trust no one other than family - so they refuse to pay taxes. What happens is that as individuals they have more personal wealth in the South, while in the North they have less, yet the Northern countries are way more prosperous.

These things should have been taken into account in the EU, because you can't change a person's culture - and no one has the right to. But Merkel in typical German fashion, wanted to brow beat them into submission.

The students in the US decided to ignore the virus, and take their Spring break holiday in Fort Lauderdale. It's a 50 year old tradition. Good luck to them, and to us. Fort Lauderdale is not too far from Boca where I live. I would like to know who is going to be serving them, mostly everything is closed?

You've pointed out Europe's major weakness. There is no One Culture in Europe. It's a porridge of cultures which makes it an interesting place to live. And, regardless of a dreary economic environment presently, a morose economy always is better than having yet another war in Europe.

I am hoping that all the present faults are due to the age of some of the country leaders. Especially the ex-Communists who cannot seem to break with their urge for total domination. (Particularly Poland. Or an Orban in Hungary.)

Still, this effort to make a United States of Europe has been well worth the effort. In the old-model headed by "unelected families" countries simply went to war with one another every so often. Peace is always better than war, even if said peace is not as economically well-developed as it could be.

Maybe the younger generation that will take the reigns of power one day soon will do better. Let's hope anyway ...

I'e just finished an hour ago (on French TV) a coverage of Spring Holiday in Fort Lauderdale! That it should appear on French TV surprised me enormously.

I found it a Great Shame that they were all drinking themselves silly. And they did not seem to understand that it is their mixing communally that is exactly how Covid-19 transmits itself.

It's a real sad shame if those youngsters will be the "inheritors" ...

About prediction, I wonder how much it would influence European Union. Macron has managed the coronavirus in a very poor way, and he is there the big EU champion.

Could the coronavirus cause indirectly the fall of the EU ? We will see.

This virus would change deeply many things, first because of the economic crisis there is, and second because It would deeply influence everyone which lived it, and modify their relation with the world.

I think initially Governments did expect themselves to go as the Chinese. In the West it appears they did that simply on the numbers not being bothered about what China had done.

Once it had admitted it had a problem by fair means and foul the Chinese cut of Wuhan making the people stay indoors except for trips to the shops by one in the household. Those who did not obey found themselves carted off to centres where they could catch it from others - there was even talk of China welding some people in. They even blocked the entry to Wuhan so that it was virtually impossible to get in or out. I hear that in areas of other cities where an infected person was found they did the same. So that is mass isolation and I am not sure that any Western country has as yet got to that level so we are not even at the starting block.

China also did contact checks on those who tested positive. That a country of their size has so far only had just over 81,000 infected and three and a quarter thousand deaths is beyond belief even taking that this is probably a low count.....and that is what we believe we are going to have? We are fooling themselves. They also gave those in hospital an anti malaria medication which showed itself to be efficient at beating the virus with virtually no side effects. The US is looking into using this now but fails to mention that it is the drug China used and South Korea.

Now some countries followed the way China had acted. Mass testing and contact follow ups, masks, isolation of areas infected. South Korea did all of those - by last week had tested over 200,000 and also was giving its version of the medication China used. For a while it looked like it was going to be the next mass hit but now it has been well overtaken by Italy, the US, Spain, Germany and so on. It hasn't got it sorted yet but it has not as I said taken off like we in the West have and it has a low death rate and that is almost certainly because it followed in its way the procedure China used including the medication.

Now if we take the UK. We had a different approach from the start. We wanted to get herd immunity. In other words we wanted 80% of the population infected as that is what is needed for herd immunity. What scared the **** out of everyone was noticing what happened to Italy. While wanting to get mass immunity the UK does not want its health services overwhelmed which would have happened with its previous plan. It is intending on not letting the most at risk - the over 70's get needed Intensive care treatment and so has told them not to come out and now has shut most of the UK down. It's earlier actions of allowing planes from Italy when it was already obvious Italy was in serious trouble was presumably in order to let the virus in and build herd immunity. The UK has stopped finding contacts - presumably because it wants as many as possibly infected but also has been held back in this as people watch Italy and a strong fear of a mass of people dying arises. What most people seem to miss is that many countries are reporting half of their serious/critical are under 65 and many of them do not even have any of the underlying conditions. So far most of them can be saved though it is feared they may have long term problems with their lungs. If the UK and other countries do not make sure they get the curve as they want it, it will not be the old in isolation who die. It will be people of all ages from all sections of society. Possibly that is why the UK now is offering seemingly extensive help.

We are not moving like China because we did not move like China. The result of that is for the future to see.

P.S In January WHO asked the richer countries to give the $350 million to work on the virus. The received only $54,000. That at the time was the importance we put on a virus in China.

    ENOUGH SAID?

I know for a fact that the above is indeed what happened in Europe. About three-weeks too late we are coming finally to a complete shutdown. Yes, one must throw people out-of-work for them to understand how killer-serious COV-19 is.

Tis a shame, but it is also very human. Once again, it is EASY to point the finger-of-blame at an elected official. They did not perhaps want to appear to "panic". (But did Donald Dork have to say it was all a hoax to the public?)

And another thing, from the Guardian: Why are the rich and famous getting coronavirus tests while we aren't?

    Excerpt:
    'Nuff said? Methinks not ...

Let's face it - money speaks louder than words in America. In the US, you can indeed BUY PRIVILEGE in healthcare! All you need is the money.

Now, where is the fairness of that? Where? Because I looked hard and could not find it! (See here.)

I don't need to here in France. I get it because my taxes go to a government furnishing it free, gratis and for nothing ...

And there are some things the French government is doing that really help the situation. Finally, the French Army/Navy have been called upon.

They are setting up Caretaker Hospital Bedroom Tents because hospital-beds are all full in the south of France where the weather permits it. (Staffed by military personnel.) And an aircraft carrier has already fetched from Corsica the sick because there are no more available hospital beds and staff.

There is plenty that needs doing in the US, which is waking-up lately to the immensity of the challenge. And publishing the fact that Hollywood actors have all taken CV-19 tests (see here) is boorish! Since when were their lives more worthy than ours!

That's America for you. Even in a national-crisis, it's all a matter of Whoze got da muney .... !!!

I suspect that, given the population of Wuhan, they locked it down - which is the reason that the virus was not further "'catching" greatly beyond that town.

They locked down Wuhan. No new entries and (above all) no exits. The police set up barricades and manned them.

Try that in New York City and see what happens ...

PS: And whyzzat? Because the mainland Chinese have never known real-freedom. Give them a dose of THAT reality and they will fight for the rest. China is quite possibly a country just waiting to explode. Many mainland Chinese who have gone to Hong Kong and Taiwan know exactly how "the other half lives".

    OH MAH GAWD!

Having lived for a considerable time on both sides, I can swear the US is more violent place than Europe.

The stats bear me out. See here - the US has three times more per capita Crime Rate (per person) than the European Union.

But Donald Dork is gonna fix all that when he gets reelected - right ... ?

Agreed. In the south of Europe one becomes "family minded".

People find jobs in the US with a good Resumé. In Europe, often, you must "know somebody" ....
