Obesity rates are much higher in the lower (economic) classes. Check the stats. It's a function of the same thing that keeps them poor.

Mass consumption is the only way capitalism can work that is why they spend so much money on advertising trying to make you feel inadequate if you don’t own their product. It works look at all the obese folks that are brain washed consumers.

You are just jealous because you don't own 5 Rolex watches that definitly work almost as well as a fifteen dollar watch. Get with the program! Start small and then work your way up to a Mercedes which is only vastly inferior in every respect ( except imaginary status) to a Toyota

I think mass consumption means being a wage slave to buy things you don't really need, or even really want all that much.
It implies people would be better off and happier not working as hard and not buying so many things.

In todays society, with people going into credit card debt to buy non-essential things they probably can't really afford, like a fancy new car or big screen TV, the ideology of mass consumption certainly exists to some extent.

They're not brainwashed. Unless you think they have the personal powers of three year olds.

No one is influenced to 'buy' unless they're already given themselves permission to do so. That permission comes first. Advertising is invisible when you are not planning to buy.

Only in certain sectors of society .. or certain individuals. It's not a feature of technology, or society (as an entity), or the modern world, or any of these things. If it was, we'd ALL succumb.
