Be at the DMV since 9:00 there's about 100 people with two DMV workers. These ladies don't care. I think they only have two speeds. Slow and dead stop and their slow is broken.
If I ran my company like this I would be put out of business. This is what a government ran entity is like. They don't care about the customers because we don't have a choice. Open this up to public competition and watch their attitude change. Four hours so far and not even half way to my number.

If government operated like a business there would be no physical location for you to even show up. Just a 1-800 number that after spending 10 minutes navigating a phone tree would put you on hold for 45 minutes just to talk to a guy in India. The guy in India asks you all the same questions the stupid phone tree computer asked you to type in already. And then the phone call gets dropped after 20 minutes of fruitless conversation and you would have to start over.

Do people call great private companies in low tax, business friendly, non union, states like Dell? Sadly a trip to my local DMV is more fruitful.

Great idea. You mean I could just call the DMV and not have to lose money for a whole day of pay? I could just call and still keep working? You my sir are a smart one. Yes let's fire these lazy slow people and give me a automated system. The automated system has more personality and more desire to do their job.

IF the DMV operated like a private business, it would be Verizon Wireless.

You'd stand around in a store with a hoard of other bewildered people waiting for your name to come up on a screen, while a bunch of sales people and part time contractors mill around looking busy doing nothing in particular.

Wnen it finally comes time for them to answer your question, they all have exactly the same answer; "You're eligible for an upgrade!!!!!"

Not sure where you work but at my job you can't sit on personal phone calls for 3 hours straight for four days. At least with the DMV every time in my life except once when I walked in I left with what I needed. Wish there were private companies with that kind of record.

I wish this would be four hours. I would be done already.
I own my own company. If I have a back up in customers I would pull a few people from another department. Don't see why this can't happen here. Even if just someone to push the damn photo button and say don't smile. Any able body could do that. But nope that's not how it works. They don't get paid by performance. I am not afraid to say that if these two worked for me I would have fired them. Just plain rude. I know we aren't costumers but they can try to act like they give a crap.

You can type all you want. I have dealt with Verizon, at&t, Dell, multiple banks, Cox, etc. This isn't something I have to read in a blog or see on Fox or MSNBC or have a politician with an agenda tell me. We all deal with the private sector and particularly in areas where there is a monopoly or oligopoly and the internet is full of horror stories. You think the call centers at those corporations are manned by highly paid well trained people in... India?! What cave are you living in?

If a business operated like the government... it would go bankrupt, and all the management would end up in prison.

Like how all the financial companies went bankrupt and the mortgage bond traders went to prison?

I'm saying I would prefer an automated machine then these hateful people. The machine would have a better personality. They look like they hate this place and is people. If this was my company they would all be replaced. If you can be polite and work in a timely manner then you must go. Going on five hours and still not close. Oh wait they are on break. All of them at once. How nice.

I prefer getting my stuff done. That happens 95% of the time with the government and about 20% of the time with the private sector. I can't tell you how many times I've had to clean up my credit report because of some BS lies a private sector company started spreading. I thank God I am a neurotic paperwork hoarder. I've only had a snafu like that once with the government. And of course it was because of some garbage law some idiots passed in a red state... and then outsourced the enforcement to a totally incompetent private company. There are two things I really hate. These private business oligopolies and red state governments. And when you combine them, watch out!

I would bet the tea party would disagree about the government getting things done. I would bet occupy would disagree about the government getting things done about too big to fail. I would bet the unemployed would disagree about the government getting stuff done. Etc. I would disagree right now about the government getting stuff done. Going on six hours now. Still here. At least with a company I can call someone and complain and try to get better results or at least the person responsible for the bad service will be reprimanded. Who do I call Obama, Congress, the State and what will they do about it? The same as Obama has don't about Wall Street and lobbyist. Nothing but reward them. I'm sure these people will receive fat bonuses for their laziness and poor attitudes.

What is there to agree or disagree with? I am reporting what happens in my life and how I reached my conclusion. This isn't something spoon feed to me by Fox, MSNBC, Moveon.org or the TEA party. You have to open your eyes and think for yourself. Have I ever gone to the DMV to get or renew a drivers license and left empty handed? No. Have I been left empty handed innumerable times by private sector companies after weeks of phone calls, multiple appointments, and waiting around? Yes.

One solution I have found to the DMV is to go to smaller out of the way offices. It's just like the post office. You go to a post office 10 minutes away and there is one guy servicing a line with one person in it. You are in and out in five minutes. Try that with the cable company. They say no. There is one office in your region. Show up and take a number because you will be there awhile.

Not sure what you're there for, but I can pretty much do all things DMV related on-line, it's a whole lot faster.

One of my young new helper was told to go clean the work trucks and accidentally throw away the reg. paper work. Six and a half hours. Lost a whole days work and and treated like I was bothering them to ask them to do their good.
Customer review: 2 out of ten
I give them two for a clean bathroom with hand soap.

What is worse is the unions always want more money for the job they can't perform.

Well the comparison between government and business wouldn't be complete unless Congress also runs your budget at the business. There's already and example of this in the USA it's called the US Postal Service. It has to operate in the real world, and I bet it's loads of fun for the postmaster general when Congress vetoes any cost cutting suggestions.

If you spend all that time on the phone at work, wouldn't that mean you are just as unproductive as the ladies at the DMV you were complaining about?

Blue Tooth. I can do my work with hands free and still smile and be nice. I can still treat my customers with respect.

    LOL

Anybody who claims the DMV is more fruitful than anything is delusional.

Do you work for the government?

Government is the biggest monopoly off them all.

Worse, they can force you to do business with them.

You compare an organization that has the ability to demand, through force, the fruits of your labor, the ability to attempt to infringe on rights, and determine laws and policy that directly impact your quality of life with a cell phone company, cable company, computer company, and bank.

    Real logical bud.

Last time i was at the DMV I was out in 15 minutes. Much less painful than dealing with a private business outsourced automated phone tree.
