In case you don't already know, the value of the U.S. dollar is dependent on the PETRODOLLAR. Basically, all of our oil-producing partners require other countries to use U.S. dollars when they purchase their fuel. This, in turn, ARTIFICIALLY increases the value of the U.S. dollar which keeps our economy functioning. Our LARGEST oil-producing partner just so happens to be Russia. Saudi Arabia is second.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_oil_production

So basically, Russia has a huge amount of control over the value of the U.S. dollar. In the latest Yahoo News article, Russia stated that IF the United States imposes ANY FORM of sanctions against them, they will retaliate by accepting alternative forms of currency. This a huge threat to the U.S. economy. So much so that I believe that if they do what they say, it could be determined as a declaration of war.

What really scares me the most is that China is siding with Russia on the conflict in Ukraine. So if a military conflict were to break out, the Chinese may not remain neutral. And you must not forget that both Russia and China are former communist nations. They may not embrace communism like they used to, but it's still in their blood. So it's natural that they would side with one another.

The best thing for the United States is to STAY AWAY from this conflict. Let it play out on it's own. We need to remember that Russia is far stronger than Iran, and they will not idly stand by as the U.S. and other Western countries wreck their economy.

    It´s logic...I think.

Maybe USA think they have world as their own ... but I'm afraid it is not. If the U.S. wants to sink economically Russia, the answer is to attack the U.S. economy: I don´t know, maybe manufacturing counterfeit dollars, and destabilize its currency, who would prevent it? It's not a Hollywood movie with a script already written, but real life ...
When U.S. imperialism invaded Panama (1989) and Granada (1983) ... Did USSR do anything? No. .. it would make sense that Washington not to attack Russia. CiA has mounted a coup in Kiev and no luck .. Russian reaction was expected, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose ... but certainly should not exceed.. friendship is the best for everyone. You invaded Panama (and Panama never belonged to the U.S.), others invade Ukrainia (which has belonged to them since the Middle Ages ...?) ...

    Regards

I don't think I may reply for technical issue on war for a moment.

But it seems like Russian economists haven't criticized for the issue about the economic effect on Sochi Olympics, Bitcoin, and the conflict on Ukraine.

Talks about sanctions are nonsense. We need to focus on our own problems at home: inequality, racism, blown up military budget beyond any practical reasons, unemployment, etc.

I say we stay out and let all of the countries who think the U.S. is an evil aggressor deal with it. Hmm all of their mouths are shut on the forum now aren't they when the need the U.S. to deal with a bully.

Neither Russia nor the USA have clean hands when it comes to evil aggression.

I'm not one to promote schadenfreude but America's lack of moral authority is coming back to haunt it. Obama's body language says it all.

While I agree that the use of the dollar in oil trade is a lot of what props up the value of the dollar, I have to correct you on one thing.

Russia is the world's largest oil producer, but it isn't our largest oil trading partner. That would actually be Canada.

We receive more oil from Canada than from anyone else.

There will be no war. Putin will get what he wants and this is it. Any sanctions would hurt us more then Putin's Russia.

I don't think "America's lack of moral authority" is the problem, trout. When the revanchist thug in the Kremlin looks at Western leaders he sees weakness, indecisiveness and naivety. That perception just encourages the aggression of people like Vlad the Invader. He knows he can get away with anything...

It's a bit more than that. After Iraq and Afghanistan, most of the public is tired of war.

Libya and Syria already tested our patience, and the Ukraine is even less of interest to us.

Some conservatives have been beating the war drum along with some liberal hawks, but the average person wants no part of this.

And where does the U.K sit on that list? You think that just because your empire has fallen that the blood no longer stains red? The Republic is cleaning up the mess of the royals, slowly but surely.

That may be our perspective, Serfin', but I don't think Putin is measuring the attitudes of the American people. I think he's measuring the leadership in Washington, London, Paris, Berlin, etc.

Don't forget, any economic moves Russia can make can be mirrored by all of BRICS plus whatever other countries want to get on board. They've been building an alternate economy for this very reason.

USA think they have the world by the balls economically, but the USA need the world. They all abandon their USD as reserve currency and there goes the whole Federal Reserve continuous borrowing/0%/QE house of cards. The system is already so flimsy it will fall apart on its own sooner or later, without the world to prop it up, it can be collapsed at anytime.

    LOL, no it isn't.

Oh my god you are so full of it. LOL!

In 2012 our top oil imports came from Canada. Canada was 5 or 6 times that of Russia. Mexico was double that of Russia. We got as much from Iraq as Russia.

    Russia contributes almost nothing.

Russia has little control over the US dollar. Who is forcing them to buy or sell oil with US dollars? Are they doing it because they love us? Their reasons are financial.

Whats stopping them? Why have they not already done it?

Russia's economy is a drop in the well compared to the US. Our sanctions would hurt them far more than their "accepting alternative currencies" would hurt us.

What should really scare China is that the US might decide to move it's manufacturing elsewhere...or start imposing tariffs on China-made goods.

China is not "former" communist. And their ideology has not stopped them from using trade with the US to boost their economy. How well will their economy do without the US as a client? You think Russians are going to fill the gap and buy their crappy goods?

The sky is not falling. Russia has far more to fear from US sanctions that we have to fear from anything they might do in retaliation. They are not in a position to make demands.

Kinda a double edged sword, if China and Russia switched from the Dollar as a RC we would most likely change our Chinese policy.

A lot of dumb things would become extremely expensive, but more worry some so would materials.

However if we chose to bring mfg back home it would be a huge turnaround in the long run. Or we would find another stooge country...

There is no shortage of cheap labor. Cheap labor is cheap for a reason.

SE Asia, South America, Mexico...lots of places would love our business if China doesn't want it.

If true, sometimes one has to pay a price to do the right thing. Bow down to the KGB Agent/President all you want, just remeber appeasement does not work with Dictators.
