Title. If they both got in a conflict(can be military or not) who should US support? China has the most economic benefit, but is rising power to compete with the US and the Russia is weaker economically. Russia is definietly more stronger military and more a threat to US military. Who do you choose?
The last time two despicable countries fought each other we helped one of them way too too much - the USSR. That was a mistake. A China Russia conflict was a dream that my dad had and I can very much appreciate that especially since now China is on the verge to be a dangerous force in Asia and they are making in roads in Africa. A war between the Satan and the Devil sounds really great and to me that would be equivalent to a Muslim getting his 40 virgins. The sad thing is that it would go nuclear in a flash. If there was any way to guarantee a conventional war between those two monsters I would even pray to Allah but I am not bowing forwards Mecca. The probability of such a conflict going nuclear is pretty high. The probability of war between China and Russia is very low. Yet we can dream... Imagine though a long war say 10 -15 years all along the border of China and Russia !!! Wow just thinking about that brings smile to my face and it warms the heart,
I would have to second this motion, the US should stay out of it and let them settle their own differences.
India ... While Russia and China will be destroying one each other in a regional conflict, US should think to the following new regional order, aiding the main ally in the area to gain the status of dominating local Asian power.
ROFL! The Indians? What a joke. Cows causing traffic jams, corruption, open sewers? EXTREME poverty, beggers, the caste system, a Hindu extremist leader who looks like Apu on the Simpsons. Please get serious, Alpin.
Just because nor China neither Russia will take India seriously ... India will dominate Asia ... but now I've said this ... India will be annihilated ...
Trying to pick sides in such a conflict might finally get us our very own Hiroshima/Nagasaki event, eh. It might just be the sort of thing that would finally bring war home to America, or 'the homeland' as it's termed by our current elites. Maybe that would finally sate America's bloodlust a little?
They likely would be if they opposed either China or Russia. But then, do they have much a reason to do that? I can understand if they have some disagreements with an aggressive China over maritime issues, but then China wouldn't want India at their back if they're engaged with Russia for some reason, either. India could probably get a good deal out of the situation, in fact, just by agreeing to stay out of it.
If you want a Machiavellian prediction, I guess India will remain neutral waiting to see the dead bodies of the other Asian giants.
Indian food is a clear and present danger to our health. They call it Delhi Belly. A corrupt, smelly country full of rabid dogs and beggers.
I appreciate your unconscious support for India. You know, psychologists say that an excess of negativity towards something actually undercovers an unconscious desire to support it. Are you Indian?
I think that the US should stay out of it, or at least plan to, because when the time comes that there is a major conflict and it DOES get serious enough for the US to interfere I think that it will be obvious then which is the better side. Don't plan to defend Russia, or China, plan to keep the fight civil, once the US (or any other nation) has reason to believe it would be a good idea to join the fight for any side, do it.
Stay out of it, and let both know that our allies like S. Korea, Japan, Philippines, and Europe are off limits. We also should, along with our nuclear allies... France, Great Britain make it clear that that use of nukes would not be tolerated.
Who should and who will are two different questions. Personally, I think Russia is the superior country and has better ideological values than China, and would thus support Russia over China. Now, if Mr. Trump or Mr Sanders becomes presidents, well, it seems that we'd probably stay out of that, and spread "freedom" to some brown people instead
If Russia and China ever go at it, I would say we should support the Deschutes Brewery of Bend, OR. Beer's on me, boys!
We'd likely stay out of it, begging each side to play nice. Unless there was threat of a nuclear exchange, at which point MAD would be reactivated. At which point you'd hope all sides would back down, and return to the status quote. It's the theory of a Mexican standoff. It's not a positive scenario.
The amount of pure political ignorance sometimes evidenced on this board is appalling. A war between Russia and China would be disastrous for the entire world. The economic disruption would be incalculable. Think gas at 10 dollars a gallon and $500 dollar t-shirts, but that wont really be a problem as any real conflict between these two would very quickly go nuclear. In that case try re-reading Nevil Shute's "On the Beach" to see the most likely scenario. Fortunately, the leaders of those two countries seem saner than most Americans and war between them is very unlikely. In the event they ever did the only thing the US could do to ensure its survival would be to make every effort to settle the war in any way possible.
