Seeing where we are today in this election cycle..what would you have had your guy do different ? How about how the elections are held? Who dropped out and why ? I'll start out saying Governors are better vetted than anyone from congress. They have a history of leadership that includes executive and money policy as it relates not only to a narrow support group ..but to a state with its larger diversity. Congresspeople have a much narrower support base and can hide behind and spin anti conservative votes away. Governors cannot spin stuff away other than to say they led a state of diverse thought and opinions. A Ultra conservative could not win in a liberal state and vice versa.Yet they can stay in congress for decades..delivering hidden pork back to their districts for voters. A Governor of any state cannot lead in such a manner..he must not only support his voters but those who didn't vote for him. This leads to many You tube moments where they can be branded anti party. So ..we have only 1 governor remaining.. We have 2 corrupt congresspeople and a guy who doesn't support Republican principles on defense and the military..nor does he support the eventual Republican nominee for president. ( last 2 times ) Where did it all go wrong ?
No bailouts for the big banks. If they fail then they're doing something wrong. Bailouts only encourage and tolerate immoral practices and tell the banks they aren't doing anything wrong. UHC should not be mandatory and those who can't pay for it should not be fined. More stringent laws regarding illegal immigrants. More financial help for people who truly need it.
He wasn't my guy but if I could pick any state where I could make one change the last 3 years it would have been preventing Edward Kennedy's death until his term was up. Without that move, the healthcare debate would have had a completely different outcome and tone, and the Senate would have kept 60 votes through Obama's first 2 years in office. Very likely, the entire direction of the administration would have been viewed in a more positive light, less compromise would have meant less conservative poison in the bills, and the Dems wouldn't have lost so badly, if at all, in the midterm. His death and the Scott Brown election that followed lit the fire for the Republican obstructionist machine, that otherwise would have been powerless against the Democrats mandate from 2008. We'd all have been better off in that situation, even the ungrateful folks on the right.
Good points. Eventually the political pendulum will swing to a place where the proper things for the nation can/will be accomplished. And I hope that is sooner than later.
Actually find real conservitives......Mitt is the most progressive republican I have seen in my lifetime. What a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing joke.
Are you asking for a critique of our whole system? If yes, then the start would be eliminating the "winner take all" elections, bringing in proportional elections and representation, and eliminating the two party stranglehold. After that, I'd say a Constitutional amendment limiting the power the Executive Orders, a repeal of the War Powers Act, and a campaign finance amendment creating a public pool of campaign resources and banning private money from campaigns would follow. After that, term limits.
It would have been nice if Republicans supported Gary Johnson who was a two term governor. However, he is like the other conservative running who doesn't believe in nation building and extending ourselves all over the globe. Too bad Republicans don't care for limited government conservatives.
