If you were reliant upon the child tax credit, then you can't afford to have children

Similar to the old saying "If you can't afford to tip, you can't afford to eat out", it's not my responsibility to make easier the life you made harder on yourself. If the tax credit was necessary to your life livable, then you really made some bad choices. The one lady actually said "I took him out to eat".

As a conservative, I'm generally for people being allowed to keep what they earn. These women are no exception, but let's be honest. They're definitely getting more back than they paid, and possibly more than they earned. The expiration of these tax credits isn't some huge injustice.

Kids are the most difficult thing you'll ever do. I planned on retiring from Shell at 55, but that's going to be difficult since I'll have a kid in college until I'm 60. The choices we make.

The term "tax credit" is misleading. Its her money; they just stole less of it. I could not afford to have kids, so I had 5 and like everything else that is important, we figure it out.

I do have an issue with incentivizing people to have more kids when they don't have income.

I addressed that. You can use it to get a refund even if your tax liability is reduced to 0.

A portion of the child tax credit is refundable which means someone could be getting back more than they paid in depending on their income. For the working poor, they can double dip with the earned income tax credit and get a lot more back than they ever paid in so the money they are getting back wasn't "theirs" in the way you imply.

Anyway, I really don't care. If it helps keep some kids out of poverty, go for it. I just hope the parents spend the money on the kids and not themselves.

Unfortunately we now live in a state where raped women and children and unwilling mothers are being forced against their will to birth children under the whims of the screaming conservative minority.

As long as that is the case then I support taking less of parents taxes.

If you can't afford to eat out, don't eat out!

If you can't afford having children, get an abortion!

There, I finished your point for you.... You're welcome....

I wonder how people who worry about the birth rate in America feel about this topic.

Fair enough. If they are working, there is no chance of it being a positive over their lifetime.

What about the mortgage and health care tax credits. Not many could afford the latter without it.

Haha.....someone in the article I shared said it was like an allowance. She had her nails done in her picture. Rent assistance and food stamps don't pay for that. She used the tax credit.

I am aware of parents who are like that and I am aware of those who actually do spend it on the kids. My gut instinct is more spend it on themselves if the people I know who get EITC are any indication. When I was in high school one of my coworkers got fired for laying out which the did when they got their big tax refund and went on a drug binge. The GOP created the EITC monstrosity and the dems created the child tax credit one. They are both not well executed when it results in a big old free money check.

Well eventually you lose your little dependents who get you both but it can be a good gig for a couple decades depending on how many you have. I think we should do away with them because this is where a lot of the fraud happens with bogus tax filings. If I can steal Doofenshmirtz's info to get past the IRS, I can create a fake return and get a real refund before they figure out Doofenshmirtz made a lot more money and had far fewer head of household dependents than were in the returns I filed for you.

It's been enough of an ordeal just taking care of myself in this world so what I did is I did not have any children.

I'm in my early 40s and it doesn't look like I'm going to have any because that ship is fast sailing away. Oh well, I'm sure the human species is not in danger of going extinct over it.

I heard a good saying.... The government is not your baby daddy, if you can't afford to feed it, then you should not breed it.

True. I would do away with much of our complicated tax system and force politicians to spend responsibly. They want 80K agents to go after us, they are the ones that need enforcers going after them.

Like welfare recipients, the government doesn’t work for the money it “receives”. So it has no value.

im generally for making sure kids get fed, but when I hear someone on assistance complaining that they can’t afford luxuries I lose all sympathy.

Welfare recipients enjoy luxuries. I grew up on food stamps and so did most of my friends. The girls always had nice hair, nails, clothes, make up, and the boys always had expensive shoes and brand name clothes. Their parents had big TVs, nice cars, and nice furniture.

I think that if a mother needs help supporting her children, she should not sit home while they're at school.
