Ind. Senate calls for U.S. constitutional convention half way to one down and thirty-three to go! massive reform is needed or we're going to end up like Detroit, pure and simple. i don't see the need to limit any future convention, any proposed amendment will still require 2/3rds to be adopted.
I have a good question what makes you think if they did this they would go smaller governments way it could bring in all kinds of changes some for the rights of the poor. If I was on the committee I would fight for the right to a social safety net for all citizens and end economic discrimination in government and public policies and in private practices. This to include the right to affordable housing, health care, a job, welfare support if one doesn't have the means to a basic level and a free education including college and graduate/professional school at any public institution in the country getting Federal funds. You want people like me on there making policy I'm not alone I'm sure.
I think our social dilemma merely requires enough political fortitude to burden the wealthiest with wartime tax rates whenever any public policies claim any need to deny or disparage our privileges and immunities due to alleged wartime concerns.
Drag him out nude, tar and feather him and chase him right out of the state with torches and pitchforks!
you sure it isn't the exponential growth of "entitlements"? government payroll (excluding their pension) is most of the budget. when they start collecting on that, things are really going to get sticky. you won't just have employees to pay, but the people they replaced at nearly the same rate. - - - Updated - - - drag who?
Our current Warfare-State regime is an entitlement for the wealthiest who can afford to make money with plenty of money at their disposal under our form of Capitalism.
An idea is simply a daydream if no one is willing to implement such an ideal or take the absolute risk to see that idea becomes reality. the only reason why this bill is in the Indieana Senate is because the Sentae Pro Temp was criticized by his own policy. He knows full well that this will satisfy the mob, even for a brief time, while still retaining his senate seat when the next election comes.
It's pretty sad for the GOP when one of their own has to resort to this sort of poltical stunt in order to blunt the withering attacks of the extremist right wing.
Check this out. I haven't researched it all the way through but there are standing calls for CC in place already.
It should be as simple as understanding a maxim that claims it only takes money to make money in our objective and market based reality.
I dont understand why people want a constitutional convention... Our elected officials dont even follow the constitution we have now. Why waste the time.
I am already convinced we can't do a better job today, even with a modern Information Age at our disposal.
it's not "only...money", it's "it takes money to make money". if you want to be a farmer, even if you have the land, you have to buy seed and a tractor to make it all work.
Isn't Obama tarnsforming the country already? If you get your wish we could end up a helluva lot worse.
My point is you will get all kinds of people, a good number of progressives and such might want a strong social safety net enshrined in the new constitution if we did one and if they managed to add this a welfare state would be constitutional, right now one can make a case its not. And what about other legislation that might be added in from other sorts of groups. It could end up making a strong central government even stronger and taking out states rights if enough people sided with that, not I expect such a constitution to make it through the final process.
"Rights of the poor"? Where in the Constitution are these "rights" articulated? Since there are no such things as a "right" to a social safety net for all citizens, affordable housing, health care, a job, welfare support and a "free" college education, good luck with your socialist fantasies. Then again, you could move to Castro's gulag and live the dream.
anybody can get a free college degree. you just have to be smarter than most of the rock heads there now.
So constitution is the best document ever written but when it contradicts to your political agenda - it has to be changed.....
