My contract was up and I did a lot of research on Android phones currently available. Some things they have in common: They all have good cameras. They all have front cameras. They are all dual core and very fast. They all have Ice Cream Sandwich or will be getting it soon. They all have battery life at least comparable to previous generations phones. They are all 4G. They all have 1 gig of RAM. All of them have at least 12 gigs of internal storage. They can all do 720p video from the front camera, and 1080p video from the back.

Here's my quick and dirty review of the three top ones for Verizon:

    Galaxy Nexus (Samsung)
Pros: 720p Super AMOLED display, Vanilla Android with ICS pre-installed
Cons: Display is Pentile (ick), No SD Expansion (WTF??)

    Moto Razr
Pros: Ultra thin and cool looking, True RGB Super AMOLED Display, Most Durable
Cons: No removable battery, No 720p display

    HTC Rezound
Pros: Best display (720p, Pixel Density superior to Retina Display), Beats Audio w/killer earbuds, Fastest CPU
Cons: Big and Heavy, Worst Battery life

On the included headphones for the Rezound, and why they are called "iBeats":

    LOL!

This may be to cumbersome for your needs...and it won't have any apps or cameras. But if you just need to keep in touch with everyone on the planet, 24/7

There is a really good reason no one is carrying them around anymore. Can you guess why?

Yes. According to Obama, Americans have become lazy. We're getting to be an obese nation. I blame this on those tiny lightweight cell phones. Back in the day when men were men, carrying around 35 lbs of communication gear helped keep us fit and slim.

So in other words, they're all better than most laptops I've owned.

For Buddha's sake, doesn't anyone just use a phone as a phone anymore?

No. They're 'Tricorders' now. (for all you pre-Startrek folks, a tricorder is that handy gadget everyone carried around that could cure common colds, detect life forms, melt carbon steel, and communicate with anyone, anywhere in the galaxy, in real time).

Well, it depends on what you're running.

Most laptops would probably run "real" games much better. Phone CPUs are like stripped down versions of computer CPUs...they have to be in order to run so cool. The same is true of their graphics processors. 3D games on phones now are basically where computer games were 10 or 12 years ago.

But for the stuff they do, the CPUs are far more than enough. All of these phones will have no lag at all, even with multiple tasks running at once.

Why do you need a radio in your car? Doesnt anyone just DRIVE anymore?

    LOL

    Treky hat on:

The tricorder wasn't a communicator... They had the little bleepy thing in the original serie for that, replace by a badge in later series. It didn't heal either, McCoy had is medkit with him with needle free injectors. It was use to diagnose ilness though. I don't remember it used to melt anything bu I believe it was use as a sonic weapon once by adjusting the frequency of its probe.

Oh, and bot the old time communicator and badge have a limited range, near orbit or so.

    Treky hat off....

I ended up getting the Rezound. And it is awesome.

The biggest surprise was how great the camera on it is.

Obviously neither Apple or Steve Jobs weren't contracted to develop the Tricorder for StarFleet.

And what does that have anything to do with what I posted. Or was it a stupid attempt at starting a silly flamewar again....
