Looks like the well has run dry for te Republicans.

Their "Big Lie" strategy isn't working for them this time.

I generally find Quinnipiac polls to be politically neutral and reliable. It's interesting that it was a perception that Republicans were a little more to blame, rather than a sharp division in the perception of the two Parties.

Yeah I agree with you - People I have talked to seem to think both parties are acting like a day care center on speed. Very different from the sharp divide we see on this forum

I don't understand why anyone would find this remarkable.

Hostage taking is now a signature Republican strategy. And we know that conservative groups, largely financed by the Koch Brothers, have been plotting to force a shutdown for months.

Why would anyone hold Democrats responsible for a strategy that originated and has been pushed by the far right wing of the Republican party.

Why would anyone blame Democrats, when the last time we came to the edge of default, it was the GOP pushing that strategy as well.,

    That may be the case.

I find a lot of people I encounter who say that are actually conservatives who don't want to own this gambit.

There are a lot of other people who don't really understand what's going on, and certainly don't understand who is behind it.

Nice to see the partisans are still out there. A disapproval rating of 60% isn't much better than one of 74%, but I gues 2 out of 5 approving of you is better than 1 out of 4 approving of you.

And I would suggest most of those people are the moderate conservatives, who while in the vast majority seem to be struggling to get a voice within the party. I agree with you many don't really understand the underlying causes of this issue, but on a basic level they understand government is meant to govern and not be caught in this silly he said she said crap.

I am not surprised. Although the strategy of shutting down the government over a single law is new, the GOP has a known history for severe resistance to social policies. This happened for medicare, and for social security. In fact, Reagan predicted that social security will turn us into a socialist country. I do have a lot respect for this man, but I think this shows that the GOP has a record of similar scare tactics.

A lot of people, not the majority, may say that the government shutdown is the Democrats fault, but I have no doubt that history will show otherwise.
