I’m asking for the plan. Not just sound bites.

Do you think Trump will (or should) use the military in Latin American countries (as implied by the OP)?

As I say, as of now it’s tough talk with no specifics.

Those thugs are mostly cowards, they won't be hard to get rid of. Keep killing off the leaders and their employees just focus on killing each other or ratting each other out, same as the mafia did.

Cartels are a complicated subject. Constant power struggles, externally from other cartels in country, and internally within themselves. Multiple Mexican cartels which benefit from other cartels being weakened or eliminated. Massive amounts of money at stake. Cartels from other Southern American countries ready to fill the supply vacuum from the collapse of larger Mexican cartels.

No doubt we could assist in helping or going after certain cartels as we have in the past, but it always the large ones who have gotten to large and powerful. Would be better to go after the 5 or 6 largest in Mexico but that would span the entire country and still leave their regional rivals which they all have to fill the void.
Mostly an empty promise under the circumstances. But getting the leaders of a larger cartel is always a good press and photo op.

I didn’t say nothing can be done. I said I see no specific plan.

Why do you turn that into a personal attack? Especially when I said I support the concept.

Nobody is claiming they can all be wiped out forever and ever n stuff; we can make it suck to be a chief, and we can make it suck to stick their heads out of a hole.

What personal attack? I thought you would enjoy that. Would you rather knit socks? You really think nobody can figure out how to do anything? lol

My favorite is dropping missiles into their compounds, and hunter/killer teams, like the MOSSAD used to send after terrorists.

Meh, maybe. I am rooting for him but am skeptical of his claim. Seems more like tough talk than anything else. It’s like when Trump promises to cut energy prices in half within the first year. I wish him the best and hope for success, yet I am skeptical of his promise and think he was really being hyperbolic. Tough talk and grandiose promises are meaningless to me as they come across more like lying rather than making an honest attempt to remedy the situation.

Gosh, you mean nobody has invited you to the briefings or consulted with you first? Oh my, what an oversight.

I agree, but the OP article literally states “These cartels are animals and that’s why President Trump is going to take them off the face of the Earth,” Homan said. So at least the likely future border czar is making that claim. Considering what happened to the Sinaloa cartel heads I would say we are currently and have been trying to make it suck to be chief. Yet it seemed to make little difference considering they are still one of the most powerful cartels in Mexico.

So you do want to use the military to launch attacks into foreign countries. Noted.

Perhaps you would also skip down there and throw your twisted panties at them?

We haven't really applied heavy pressure yet. The Mexican 'government' is pretty much non-existent outside Mexico City and a few of the other cities; they cant do much by themselves, even if they manage to clean up the Federal police force. It is something we are going to have to do ourselves, meanwhile we allow the Mexican govt. to pretend they're 'all upset n stuff' and posture for the media, but we know they're really not upset at all.

Trump didn't start anything; the cartels did, and the Mexican govt. covers for them.

To wipe cartels off the face of the Earth?
There is much easiest way, 'Just say no!'!

Does not matter what politicians are promising, there are always people who will believe them.

Maybe no one explained to him what "border czar" means. Or......maybe his boss doesn't know, but it sounds like it sound like it has something to do with the border, and not so much about attacking cartels in other countries.

He didn't say Mexico. There are cartels in other countries too. Wiping them off the face of the earth would require sizable military operations.

We have been at it for decades.

He's MAGA, so what he says has no requirement of being grounded in reality, it just has to sound good as a narrative.

MAGA voters in turn won't dig any deeper, either out of blind devotion to Trump or out of fear they will be exposed as a non-believer and shunned.

The first step would be to stop the flow of US manufactured guns into Mexico and Central America. Of course, we know this will NEVER happen, because the gun lobby OWNS Republicans in Congress.

Going after cartels outside of US borders is pretty new for either party, isn't it? That's why it's a big topic to me. It sounds like a pretty big undertaking and it has mostly come out of nowhere. It's one thing to focus on border security and deporting illegals, but it's another to start sending the military out to wipe drug cartels off the face of the earth.

This is an excellent point. The drug trade is really bidirectional and it's a question how much will be done to address this side of it. Presumably it will slow or stop if these cartels are wiped out as promised. That would certainly make the job easier anyway. Otherwise they'll be fighting our special forces with US weapons, won't they?
