Welcome to the world of liberal higher education where a mere chart can determine if you are oppressed or an oppressor. One of the assignments required in this class is to write how you're among the people listed below and either oppress people or are oppressed by them.

If you were in this class, what would you write?

BTW, this is the exact kind of stuff that caused Harris to lose and for Trump to win.

Indiana University Requires Students To Detail How Their Privilege Caused 'Oppression' Over 'Subordinate Groups'

An Indiana University class required students to determine their "privileged" and "dominant" identities—like being white or male—so that they could "address issues of oppression." The mandatory exercise was part of a course that fulfills the school's "social and historical studies" requirement needed to graduate.

Students were instructed to write an "in-depth reflection of two parts of [their] identity: one subordinate identity and one dominant identity," according to documents obtained by the Washington Free Beacon. The final assignment for the eight-week course, worth 26 percent of the final grade, assumes that each student has at least one identity group that gives them power over their peers and another that leads to their oppression.

Students were given a chart showing examples of "dominant" identities—like being white—and "subordinate" identities—like being black—and separated them by "manifestations of social oppression," such as classism, racism, and heterosexism. Effectively, the chart shows that straight, white, Christian males are dominant over everyone else. Or, put another way, everyone else is subordinate to straight, white, Christian males, according to the chart.

Some students, however, may find it difficult to find subordinate identities since the dominant traits are, in fact, predominant in America. One student told the Free Beacon about having had to "make something up" to complete the exercise.

"I'm being punished through an assignment for my identity as a person, and that's just crazy," the student said. "I had to make something up and I don't enjoy doing that."

    Don't take the class.
Take one of the others to fulfill the requirements.

Great game! When you walk out of that classroom, you exit as either an oppressor or a victim, there's no third choice.

It's complete wrong and corrupt, but when you choose that University, and are paying those massive tuition payments to be in a rigged game that you have not real control over, you probably have to play the crap role assigned to you.

In my opinion, government has no legitimate role spending any money in universities or colleges trafficking in such hateful garbage.

More info needed. Bet it's not as the OP presents.

This is leftist ideology at its finest. This is genuinely what the world would look like in every area of our lives from your job, your school, your bank, etc if the left had the strength to do so.

This identitarianism is one of the biggest threats our nation has faced. Luckily it's one that seems to be losing.

Sounds like much ado about nothing...
Really stretching to fill the daily quota of RW Mock Outrage Material...
    Besides:
She did, however, include an optional written note on a submission form allowing students to share concerns about the assignment.

Suck it up buttercup because life is not fair and it's tough for all of us. Your life is what you make it and you have only yourself to blame or thank for who you are today.

This is the exact sort of ideology that divides us all. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

As for me I shall never apologize or be ashamed of who and what I am. When people call me colonizer I tell them to get it right because we are conquerors, the blood of my ancestors courses through these veins of mine. No apologies here. It will be a very cold day in hell before I ever feel guilt simply for being who I was born as

What people don't seem to understand is that the only one who can oppress you, can be found in the nearest mirror.

I'm not saying oppression doesn't exist but it is certainly not an aspect of our existence here in the United States In this day and age.

Things like this are a dangerous mentality because they cause people to hate other people who are not even guilty and did not cast the stone or commit the sin.

You don't have to be what someone else tells you, just live a good life and treat others how you would like to be treated. That's it... Really is that simple. Don't overthink it.

    Well said.

History is full of people who think they are doing the right thing but unwittingly become the very thing they hate. This identitarianism is an example of the left doing this very thing.

Not trying to kiss your ass to much in 1 thread but also well said. That's called the golden rule for a reason. It literally is the one thing that if everyone did virtually all problems hold be avoidied.

According to what I read, the answers are either you're an oppressor or a victim of oppression. Did you notice the chart says it just applies to US people and not African, Asian or S American countries? If someone is looking for oppression, you'd think they'd go to the places with the most bang for the buck.

Everyone who has posted here has given an answer. The answer shows something about each one's beliefs and feelings therefore the exercise has caused people to think and react. Some people are making assumptions including that this was an attempt to sell something rather than an attempt to get students to think and react. That may not be true.

But of course there is a third option…being neither an oppressor nor a victim. Just be the same you that was before the class. No class should ever change who you are. I took Black American History as an elective for my history major. Didn’t impact me one bit. Went to class, took the tests, wrote the paper and when the semester was over moved on being the same person I was before the class. Simple as that.

I would refuse to write anything because I don't oppress anyone, nor do I allow anyone to oppress me.
I also would not write a paper answering whether I was a rapist or a rape victim.
I also would not write a paper answering whether I was a child murderer or an adult murderer.
I also would not write a paper answering the question whether I was gay or straight.
Get my picture. I would probably walk out of that class. And it would not be the first time in my life I had walked out of a meeting at work, a meeting with my son's high school teacher, a social setting, a doctor's office, or walked off a job never to return.

“DO THE LETTERS F.O. MEAN ANYTHING TO THEM?” Indiana U. students required to ‘reflect’ on how their privilege oppresses ‘subordinate groups.’

‘Each student has at least one identity group that gives them power over their peers

    Has to.

    Not "may identify"

    Has To.

'required to “reflect” on how their (alleged) privilege “oppresses” so-called “subordinate groups.”

    Required.
    Not "encouraged"

You know who is the absolute worst?

'Included in the first column are “heterosexism,” “racism,” “sexism,” and “religious oppression.” As such, if one is a straight, white, Christian male, that would be a quartet of privilege.'

'This final assignment of the course, worth 26 percent of a student’s final grade, mandated a “reflection” on the supposed fact that “each student has at least one identity group that gives them power over their peers and another that leads to their oppression.”

'One student in the class related how they had to “make something up” to complete the assignment. “I’m being punished through an assignment for my identity as a person, and that’s just crazy,” the student told the Free Beacon. “I had to make something up and I don’t enjoy doing that.”'

MORE: Student speaks out against ‘Christian privilege’ display at Indiana university

“It’s very rich that in a class where we are supposed to be talking about identity and not suppressing identity, I’m forced to suppress my own identity,” the student added. “I have to suppress myself because I’m presumed to be some privileged, horrible human being that didn’t grow up without food. That’s insane to me.”

It's insane to all reasonable people.
