Ahmadinejad is in Sudan this week. Iran is one of the biggest supporters of Sudan's president who faces indictment from the ICC over war crimes in Darfur. The two countries have maintained close diplomatic and military ties since Al-Bashir's rise to power in 1989, in a coup inspired by Iran's Islamic Revolution the years earlier. Both are state sponsors of terrorism, of course... http://bit.ly/ooTo4Q

Well there was a genocide that may account for this predominance of one ethnic/religious group. That's usually what happens.

To use climate change as an excuse as to why thousands of so-called rebels have been massacred is only half of the story.

The other half is the governments [Khartoum] complete and utter failure in preventing this. Perhaps they never intended to prevent it in the first place, that is the issue that concerns me. I think that because the Darfurians accepted South Sudans [non-muslim] call to arms that Bashir decided to kill instead of recruit or reconcile.

The so called rebels kidnapped some 17,000 Animist children in the South.

The situation is far more complex than you know.

    Which rebel group and when?

You too evidently since you think it is entirely down to climate change, that's a grossly unfair appraisal.

Climate change..??? What does climate change have to do with Darfur?

The rebel goups that kidnapped the children were John Garang's SPLA (self described Christian Marxists and the LRA) for the past 20 years... that's WHEN.

Every time the Khartoum govt sent troops to stop the carnage, it made matters worse.....

The animists tribes have been raiding each other for wives and livestock for thousands or years and they speak some 67 languages.

Last year the UN tried to get them to turn in thier guns.. Those tribes who did were nearly exterminated by other tribes.

The children were conscripted soldiers. Soldiers in Africa are younger than the teens America employs due to the nature of life in Africa and the constant battles they have with the Muslims.

The muslim arabs have been raiding Sudan for the last 500 years for women and men to use as free labourers and in their hareems. It is also documented that many of the men taken would be castrated so as to not dilute the white arab blood in arabia.

To suggest that Khartoum intended to help darfurians is laughable since they had the opportunity to re house them but instead refused them exile, khartoum is wealthier and more stable than the south so it was their duty but they failed horribly.

They are 1 or 2 years younger than our recruits in England. Many kids join the Army here when they leave school AND WE HAVE NOT HAD A WAR HERE FOR HUNDREDS OF YEARS! wtf.

Yeah.. the kids were kidnapped and conscripted or used for slaves.

What white Arab blood? Have you ever been to Sudan? The Arabs have been trading with and marrying Sudanese for 5,000 years.. EVERYbody is black.

Look at a map.. You don't realize how big Darfur is..

Meanwhile the Arabs are drilling water wells and building villages and clinics for them.

Conscripted in the Army to help fight the oppresive regime in the north.

The white saudi's . The people abducted by their[saudi] henchmen [bashir].

There is no escaping the ancient rivalry that is Muslims in the North and everyone else in Africa. At some point you will have to admit this is an issue.

Northern Sudan is arid but orderly.. cohesive.. they have schools, roads, businesses, airports, hospitals and jobs.

Southern Sudan is tribal.. and has ample water and ... Oil.

The southern rebels were never good guys... and the Khartoum government was never strong enough to enforce civil society on Darfur or the South... or protect either real Christians or Animists.

That is one side, the other side is that the north has been actively involved in causing the unrest in the south. There has been accusations that the LRA are a Khartoum funded organization as well as the marauding janjaweed. Who else would have backed them since they oppose everyone in the region?

The question remains, why is the north orderly and the south chaotic. You will answer because Islamic practice has brought about this relative peace and I will answer yes, at the expense of the south. The north south civil war has been the longest running conflict in Africa. With the new found independence we will see a new south and a changing perspective no doubt since they will no longer be bullied by the north.

You have your opinion and I have mine. I see the north as the bad guys and I see their regimes falling apart, look at Libya and Egypt, collapsing at that is a knock on effect for the centuries of destabilizing efforts they put in in Africa to the south.
