What if they held an election and no one voted? Sounds like people may be boycotting. But this is allowing the hard-liners to maintain control:
I sympathize with the feeling of not wanting to bother with an election that seems irrelevent. But the way I see it, I want my dissent on record. I dunno why exactly, but I do. Much in the same way as 'date-rapists', authoritarian control freaks tend to view a lack of dissent as the same as consent.
That number would put turnout at about 40 percent of 61.2 million eligible voters, roughly on par with the 2020 election which had put lawmakers into parliament with a 42-percent turnout, the lowest in the history of Iran since the country’s 1979 revolution. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2024/3/2/conservatives-dominate-irans-parliament-assembly-elections Turnout was low, but not much lower than the last election. I doesn't indicate a very effective movement to boycott the vote. There is no significant change in the government.
There is always a lot of good news when it comes to the Iranian people but the oppressive regime will kill their own citizens to maintain control if that is what is necessary.
Tyrants don't need votes. It's just for show. Remember... Hitler was never elected to Chancelor of Germany.
