https://reason.com/2024/01/29/irobo...amazon-kills-merger-elizabeth-warren-opposed/ HYPERLINK has full article snip The robot vacuum company is based in Massachusetts, meaning some of the terminated employees are likely Warren's constituents............ In a letter to FTC Chair Lina Khan, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D–Mass.) and five Democratic representatives recommended that "the FTC should use its authority to oppose the Amazon–iRobot transaction" as the acquisition "could harm consumers and reduce competition and innovation in the home robotics market." end snip think about that. A robot vacuum is not a necessity yet for some reason, the native American Liz Warren felt it her duty to fight the merger. The fallout is that 350 folks have lost their situation. Do you think the native American Warren and 5 other Democrats were justified in opposing this?
Warren is a F'in menace to the workers, the public, and all consumers. And of course she won't apologize or otherwise support the folks who are now jobless because of her villainy.
And think of all those iBots that are out of work now ! Oh the humanity ! Meanwhile the current unemployment rate is 3.7%.
If Amazon didn't believe there was an issue, they could have made their case to the FTC (and EU authorities) but for whatever reason chose not to. Elected politicians have a right (arguably, a duty) to speak out on such issues but they don't make the ultimate decisions. Also, had there been a buyout, there is a good chance as many, if not more, jobs would have been lost anyway.
well, it's tough to argue against a negative given that your speculation can neither be supported or rebuked as it never occurred. What we do know is that the native American Warren played a part in preventing the buyout.
That's why I only said "a good chance". It is fairly standard with acquisitions that the target company looses a lot of staff due to duplication of roles (I've experienced that first hand, twice!). The point is that the acquisition going ahead wouldn't have been any kind of guarantee to the staff who sadly lost their jobs (or the ones who didn't). Also, you're not demonstrated that the politicians' letter to the FTC had any material impact on the outcome. The FTC had apparently started it's investigation before they sent the letter and the FTC never needed to reach a conclusion either way, plus the EU was also investigating and it was that which the companies highlighted as the blocker. Regardless of what the truth actually is (and we'll likely never really know), you could have chosen to spin this as anti-FTC, anti-European, anti-Democrat or anti any of the other individual representatives who signed the letter. You just chosen to target Warren for your own reasons.

So many stop at the headline and just make up the rest to fit their narrative Personally, I think these mega corps need to be stopped from acquiring more companies as it is only consolidating wealth to extreme margins while allowing these corporations to destroy the economy ‘Greedflation’ caused more than half of last year’s inflation surge, study finds, as corporate profits remain at all-time highs It takes a special type of person to cheer this

why would he? Some folks have their heads buried so far up the Democrat party rear end that they refuse to see what is all around them They put political party ahead of suffering Americans
Did you have a bad day yesterday? Didn't like that jobs report? And the up revisions for Dec, too? Oh, btw, it wasn't just government jobs that were added, as you tend to claim, the gains were across all sectors. Even Kudlow is admitting that he was wrong about predicting a recession. When will you come around?
